Insomnia?

I know I can't die from it. In fact I don't know if I have real insomnia but the scenario is that for the past month and a half I have not been getting to sllep till gone 2am and I wake up regularly at 8am, sometinmes I only get 2 hours sleep. I feel alright in general although always drained yet I still don't sleep.
I've learnt in psychology it's sometimes linked with problems but I don't have any major ones, and I also did the old write 'em down technique but it didn't work.
I've tried sleeping pills but they just make me feel ill and I end up wakng up needing the loo.
What can I do? Does anyone else suffer with it what do they do to help themselves?

my friend(bouncy B) has the same problem, she often cant get to sleep until 3 am.And she's always tired (like now:biggrin: ).

I found this happen to me recently. I went to bed at 11pm and i was in bed for 3 hours thinking bout random things cos i couldnt sleep!!!I manage to sleep for 2 hours but i knew i was thinking bout the chemistry stuff while i was sleeping( i noe this is weird). And i woke up at 4 cos i got a text from Bouncy B.And i went back to sleep again til 7 this morning.
I think i got insomnia

Hmm, try reading a book/magazine/whatever for ages- you'll soon fall asleep (well, it works for me if I'm tired anyway).

Deep in the bosom of the gentle night
Is when I search for the light
Pick up my pen and start to write
I struggle, fight dark forces
In the clear moon light
Without fear... insomnia
I can't get no sleep

I used to worry, thought I was goin' mad in a hurry
Gettin' stress, makin' excess mess in darkness
No electricity, something's all over me, greasy
Insomnia please release me and let me dream of
Makin' mad love to my girl on the heath
Tearin' off tights with my teeth
But there's no release, no peace
I toss and turn without cease
Like a curse, open my eyes and rise like yeast
At least a couple of weeks
Since I last slept, kept takin' sleepers
But now I keep myself pepped
Deeper still, that night I write by candle light
I find insight, fundamental movement, uh
So when it's black this insomniac take an original tack
Keep the beast in my nature under ceaseless attack
I gets no sleep
I can't get no sleep

I can't get no sleep
I can't get no sleep
I need to sleep, although I get no sleep
I need to sleep, although I get no sleep

Yeah. I guess I was a bit hung up on sorting my english Language project out, but I don't get it, I wrote down what I needed to do and then I assured myself that I couldn't sort it out in my sleep obviously. Still I stayed awake for two hours until about 2:15am then I got up turned the light on and finished the piece I'd been pondering over, which was part of my methodology, satisfied I got back in bed for around 3am and still didn't drop off until 4am I don't know why but I felt like 'faeces in swear word form' in the morning. :frown:
i dont sleep for more than like 3 hours a nite and im never tired lol

Ive tried that and it just doesnt work. The doc wont give me sleeping pills because he says im too young, and it slows your brain activity down which would be a disaster because im doing exams and revising.:frown:

That's not good though, sleep is healthy. I have this thing recently where i can't sleep for a certain time continuously, i always wake up in the middle of the night.

Well, another thing which you can get over the counter is Piriton which is excellent. Only half a tablet will get you to sleep. It's usually meant for hay-fever, but it's also excellent for getting you to sleep.

I imagine if you took the whole pill then yes, but not major ones. For example, when I took a whole one I went to sleep very easily and in my dreams, it was like I was falling asleep in them too! Bizzarely enough, I was checking prices on supermarket shelves and I remember I couldn't stay awake! But if you're in an exam period then you may find it difficult to get up early or something- I mean slightly more so- but really there's hardly any significant side effects- you just may need that extra cup of coffee in the morning! But if you have no deadlines the next day- it's well worth it.

Nope. Fine for everyone I think. I had an exam the next day I think and was nervous about it so I took that to calm me down and send me to sleep!

It doesn't say anywhere that it sends you to sleep- but it does and with no particular consquences. But I would just take half a pill as that's enough just to get you to sleep nicely.

Benylin cough medicine knocks me out, or you could try nytol which helps you to relax and so sleep better - no side effects.

Exercise during the day and I mean a proper focused work out, not everyday walking etc. I have never been a great sleeper but with changing my lifesyle and including cycling in my day, ive found that i'm motivated to do my work and as a result, not worrying about stuff at night and so I fall asleep easily. I think the exercise has been the greatest help for me. Also if your waking up in the middle of the night to go toilet, you shouldn't be. Try not to drink so close to going to sleep. Hope this helps in some way- just try looking at how your day goes, and what you do in it, whether something worries you at night etc but seriously exercising will do you wonders!:yy:
