Wow Anubis where did you heard that from? I know that Brunei's Sultan is rich but is it to that extent? This is like exaggerating.

e11even...ur location says brunei, borneo isl.

if im right, brunei is supposed to be among the richest countries in the world (PCI), where the sultan's got 100+ rolls royce (oh, and coupla dozen ferraris, astons & porsches..!)...i have even heard tht the sultan does not like poor people, so he makes them rich, if he sees one..? are these true..? and if y, then why do u want to live on 3 tenners a month?

I'm not the Sultan, am I? Nor am I related to him.
He does not "make" poor people "rich". I think you're looking for "helping the poor". He provides aid (food and shelter), maybe.

I wouldn't say I was poor anyway. I just wanted to know if it was possible. I'd like to be thrifty, so I'm sort of planning my budget.

The Sultan of Brunei is rich, yes. But you are certainly exaggerating.

i thought the library is supposed to provide enough books :frown: cambridge has their book support funds

The library won't do. There are enough copies of some of the textbooks (if you're in economics) but most of them have this 'orange sticker' on it that means you can borrow it for 24hours, and that for every hour overdue you need to pay a 50p fine...

If you buy second hand you'll be fine though. You'll find that most of the economics textbooks are brand new second hand. Saves quite a bit.

...If you're in law, then I have no clue but I bet it's not cheap...

Wow, that's expensive! :p:

At a regular library in Singapore, the fine cost ~3 pence per day. :p:

But that's about the only cheap thing here.
Yeap. Singapore has damn high cost of living. But I heard some of my peers told me handphones in S'pore is cheaper than in Malaysia...don't know how true it is though. I'm thinking of getting a Creative mp3 player there too.

I frequent Singapore for holidays and I love it there. Well, not much in the way of scenery, but quite a few places of interest like the Jurong Bird Park (I quite like it there), Sentosa Island and all. And, obviously, you've got to love the shopping there. I bought my PS2 from Singapore - it's quite well known for selling electronical items quite cheaply. I went to Singapore to do my LNAT (as there are no test centres in Brunei) - it's really easy to get around, and the people are certainly very friendly and helpful.

Sorry for hijacking the thread.
I sure hope Singapore doesn't get infected with bird flu, or the bird park is going to suffer. Well e11even, since you took your LNAT in Singapore, wht didn you have your interview over there too? Flight from Brunei to Singapore should be nearer than to KL right?

You don't really hafta buy books if you don't want to. Just plan ahead as to what you wanna borrow and avoid the rush! All it takes is a little genius

lol, for all propsective econ students, you'll most likely find that you're student mentor is more than willing to offload their useless first year books as well
Okay, if I'm looking for second hand books I will contact you people who are doing law. How much are you planning to sell them?
Reply 76
dunno yet but you'll make a good saving compared with buying them new for sure
Ok thanks for the info.
