Constant insults

I'll start with saying i'm quite patient with people who insult me, and I dont really react/respond in an aggressive way. I usually just smile or ignore it. Recently I've noticed since I never say anything to people who insult me about EVERYONE has started doing it now, and I just sit there and endure it. It's been going on for about 4 months now and I just cant stand it anymore. For example. Someone says a joke, I laugh, The person says 'What are you laughing for'. It's just so annoying. What would be a wise thing to do to stop this?

I could easily do that but I dont want to get into trouble/get suspended or whatnot. If nothing like that would happen if I did I would have done it as that person would have served as an example for the others.

Yes :p: Does that really matter though?

Work on that evil stare. Like one of those stares where they insult you, you turn around and give them the coldest look ever.

You probably won't, and if you do get into trouble then so what? Say that they started it. Also getting into trouble can be good because it improves your interview skills  Just remember that.

Then the scenario you cite is one with which I identify: your peers will inevitably comprise of bigoted, belligerent cretins whose esteem should be effectively tantamount to insult as regards any sane, thinking person with prospective net worth approximating more than that of a MacDonald's paycheque.

My advice? Keep your head down, and sit out the persecution 'til uni.

I've done that till now but it's having such a huge impact on my health and wellbeing that today I decided something must be done. I'm usually angry and agitated for the rest of the day and I've started hating school alot. Any advice considering that Profesh?

This used to happen to me. Being treated like this is awful. Unfortunately people who respond in this way are usually walked over. I'd suggest that you make responses to anyone who offends you, even if it is just a 'Oh, great. Thankyou very much  ' kind of thing. You must defend yourself. I'm not suggesting that you 'kick their heads in' and I'm not promoting physical violence, but the last thing that you should do is just sit there and blush. If you defend yourself and show some strength then people will start to treat you with some respect. Good luck.

Btw, the people who you associate with appear to be bitter, nasty people. Maybe you should try and get some new friends also?

I agree. Thanks alot for that. The people I was 'friends' with are exactly as you describe. I have other more humane friends but they already have their own groups and since I joined the school last year I doubt I could fit it. I have pretty good conversations with everyone in classes where the other idiotic people arent present. (Ie. Chemistry)

I can identify with that also... which is why they should bring back the grammar school system, who cares if the idiots self esteem will suffer if they get put in a secondary modern, they deserve it

But you're making an assumption here that 'the idiots' would not be at grammar school standard. There are bullies and nasty people at all academic levels.

The people who do it without fail are usually the people who do worthless subjects and get crap grades etc. The more civilised people get along with me very well. For example I got a haircut the other day. My friend said 'Hey you look like <insertmoviestarnamehere>' a guy from my year who I havent really talked to alot before says 'He looks like a <insulthere>' which isnt really nice.

there's always a better comeback when someone mindlessly insults you

Reply 17

You got 3 choices either

1: Carry on ignoring it, acting like you dont care
2: Tell a teacher
3: Stand up for yourself

Choice is yours as all of them are good, unless you chose to use violence with option 3

No no no. I went to a grammar school and got the exact same treatment.
That type of school are generally stuck in the past and much too old-fashioned in how they work, as well. A bit off-topic there though.

I personally don't think this bears any relation to the type of school you attend. Bullies are present in all schools..not just schools either..offices, supermarkets. Everywhere in the world are people who thrive off other people's misery.

I believe you have to stand up for yourself. At the moment you are laying down on the floor and then being disappointed when people walk all over you. Get a spine, stand up for yourself and they'll get bored.
