Why 8th rep? Does it matter how many reps you do to failure?

yes. a hell of a lot. 8 reps is a general aim for hypertrophy.

Actually not. His name is Nick Kara and is a Muay Thai World Champion. That screenshot is from a movie called 'Ong Bak' which has some of the best fight sequences ever created which you can see here

Here's another picture of him without the menacing pose.

Anyways, Bis any tricep specific dumbell exercises other than dumbell rows?

oh. well i do skullcrushers/over the head extensions/kickbacks usually, as well as what they get from a chest routine.

To get that size of biceps/triceps is my training schedule justified?

well to be honest, getting to that size with someone of your age group, no supplements and many other negative factors its very unlikely. you need to get a proper regime and supplementation.

But I'm willing to take supplements as long as they dont have ANY side effects. If you recommend me what to do I'll do it. My dumbells only go up to 10Kg btw which I think wont be enough, or will it?

the kickback's good for the medial and lateral head, but it doesn't hit the long head enough (the one that sticks out at the rear). so its best to do these at the end of your workout really.

i haven't actually measured my arms in over a year, i started to think it was getting a bit sad really. last time i measured it was something like 15.8 (crap yeah) cold. as for the picture, i actually have 0 pictures of me on this computer. except for one when i was about 15, which Elipsis has seen on msn.

probably best just to do whey protein then. and no, 10kg isn't sufficient really.

All i need help on now is my motivation, i know its key, but i need a boost

Just out of interest, where did you learn your stuff from, i learnt from muscletalk, you should check it out if you're not already a member.

Reply 35

I'm feeling low now because the obvious fact that I can never get arms like those just struck me :frown: I have no idea where to start.

yeah, motivation is always hard to gain. its best to make sure you have realistic aims and keep check of your progress, and when you see gains it does help.

i learnt a lot of the things i know from books and things, and one other forum i used to visit. plus i work in a gym (one day a week these days), so i pick a lot of things up. i'll check out that muscletalk place sometime.

you can still get a pair of good arms if you work right for it. just get a good routine and diet sorted. arms aren't the only thing you should think about though, there's a lot of other muscles on the body!

I do my arms seperately.

My arm Routine:

4 sets CGBP (close grip bench press) - 8,7,6,5 reps
4 sets skullcrushers - 8,8,6,6 reps
3 sets Dips - 10,8,4

3 sets Barbell curls - 8,8,8
2 sets Dumbell curls - 8,8
1 set hammer curls - 8
2 sets preacher curls - 8,6

Something like that should help your arms grow some.

Yeah i have gain aims that are well reachable, its just continuing with the routine, i know its quite strenuous at times but you're also supposed to really enjoy it, maybe i'll enjoy it more when i dont have so much on my plate.
