I am in my second year and as always I have left it to the last minute to my essays and am feeling well and truly dooomed! What percentages do I need to get in my assessments in my second year to be in with a chance of getting a 2:1 overall?!

60% is generally a 2.1

You're in second year and you don't know what % a 2.1 is ?

Usually:

70% or higher = First
60-69% = 2:1
50-59% = 2:2
40-49% = Third

So I need between 60-69% for each of my assessments? I am really crap at Maths hence why I am not doing it!

Well, you dont need more than it on every single one, you just need it as an average

from what i heard a degree break down equated very roughly to:
1st - a/a*
2:1 - B
2:2 - C
3 - D
so do the math itd be about 60-70% i think ?

If you get say 40% in a module this year, but 80% in your 3rd year, that would average as 60%, so a 2:1 (generally).

What university do you go to? Do they not tell you these things?

How have you got to 2nd year without knowing this?!

I'm assuming you mean 40% average in 2nd year and 80% average in 3rd year would equal 60%? In which case - not always. Generally speaking, 3rd year is weighted more than 2nd year at most unis.

Well for us we need to get a median average of between 60-69%, and it's weighted pretty differently between each year. I think there's 66 marks with a weighting of 2 in first year, 24 in second year and 40 in third year so obviously third year marks count the most and you could average a 2:2 in second year but bring it back up in third.

It's probably different weighting for you, I'm sure you can find out just by emailing your tutor or head of department or whatever. But on the whole you need to aim for most of your marks to be between 60 and 70 and a few either side and that's probably the easiest and safest way to think about it.

Without mathematics you wouldn’t even be here. But true ignorance is bliss. You don’t need maths.
