I had my first general anaesthetic today. So weird, not like falling asleep at all! I wasn't sick afterwards though which I'm pleased about and didn't need to nap. So all in all less bad than I was expecting (the cannula bloody hurt though!).

Also I get my laptop back tomorrow with a new keyboard so I can get some work done during my convalescence :p:

I will if I do, but I have to say I'm not wildly hopeful. At the moment the local hasn't fully worn off and I'm quite bleedy so I'm a bit scared about busting stitches if I move too fast. I had plans to go shopping tomorrow but I've called that off.

Hope you're feeling better! When I had general anaesthetic for my tonsils I felt really rubbish, fainted twice haha.

Had a meeting with someone from our central bank today...they are looking at beefing up/redeveloping a department which will be focused on the area I am hoping (please please) to do my MSt in next year ....it would be like the perfect environment to combine my fields of interest, and get involved in policy which I am keen on :awesome:

...but I neither know how long it's going to take them to set it up, if there would actually be a role for me, or even if I will still be in the country by the end of next year. Hmmm...of course I have a little voice telling me to stop counting chickens. And I love my present job anyway. But options are always nice :yes:

I did all my voluntary work in recovery and being sick after was one of the biggest fears of patients. Rarely happened though! Hope you're ok :hugs:

ZOMG! I've died and gone to heaven. Apart from being dead on my feet after being in a conference from 9:30 until 7:15 (and there's another full day of the same tomorrow), by luck I ended up eating lunch next to the world's leading expert in my specialism :eek3:

There are so many really awesome people at the conference too, totally on the same wavelength :daydreaming:

Only thing is I completely forgot that I'm trying to get a chance to present my PhD at a colloquialism attached to the big annual internet research conference coming up in October, and the deadline is ~~tomorrow... oops~~ today. So now I've got to stay up hastily writing my proposal for it :facepalm:

My (informal) presentation for uni went OK. Got some good feedback as well as some constructive criticism which helped to make sense of the reading list I was given this time last year. Only thing was that the academic they'd invited from Royal Holloway hadn't even heard of Glee :eek2:

I kinda presumed everyone would at least have heard of it, so hadn't prepared a PowerPoint or any YouTube clips :colondollar:

So I emailed her some clips when I got back home :biggrin:

She remembered me sending her an email about 3 years ago, about postgrad study on ABBA :eek:

There was also someone there who I met at the big ethno conference two years back, who still remembered me. She's been doing postdoc work at Oxford and was telling me about the small party being arranged for my former dissertation supervisor, who is leaving for KCL. Tempted to gatecrash :ninja:

I just heard back from the editor of the journal where I sent my paper. He thinks it would be "of interest to his readers" and is sending it out for peer review! :biggrin:

I assumed that the editor would ditch it straight away as this is one of most prestigious journals in the field - was expecting to have to resubmit to a less well known one, although or course the peer reviewers may still not recommend it for publication.

hah. i know it's not really the same, but it makes me think of a conversation i was having with someone about the need to balance encouragement and criticism in marking and issues with points for effort.

a 'good job on posting in the forum!' :wink:
