Nope, only study up there, have stayed down south for the moment. I'll probs move at some point! Too much of a country girl

I don't like snow

I might just barricade myself indoors and only go out for my ABBA lecture

Have been on trains for last 5.5 hours. This train was supposed to arrive in Cambridge at 10:05 and is an hour and a quarter late. We are now just outside Cambridge, but have been stopped for 15 mins with no explanation. Massive massive fail.

Edit: points failure awaiting. This train is stuck behind broken track for the second time this journey and is this time stuck within walking distance of home. Let me off!

Its finally snowing in Norwich :awesome: And its heavy enough that there will be a decent amount tomorrow!
Unfortunately Met Office only predicts snowfall tonight. No sign of any more in the next four days

I'd avoid living in London if I could humanly help it.

Well I have 90mins to kill and there's only so many times you can read the Metro and I dislike using up battery life on my phone playing Tetris/Cut the Rope/Paper Throw etc
He wasn't convinced oddly enough.

Lol! Well departments obviously want their PhDs to be around in order to create a community/support eachother/show up to talks, etc. But I wouldn't move if I were in your shoes.

Are you living with family?

I'm there at least twice a week (then other days in the BL/archive/wherever) plus have been told to only go to the seminars that actually appear interesting (massive seminar list on offer 5 days a week!) And it's a decent workspace too as we've got our own quiet room plus ref only library. Will have the private coffee/tea room back next year as well

Yup, and it's actually not that bad. Paying rent and as I'm out the house so much I really can't complain. Plus have a decent uni library on door step too.

Sounds alright. Lots of people living in London have long commutes so it wouldn't necessarily be much better living there. I assume you're saving a lot of money too, still getting London PhD rates?

I do love the city, but I love getting out of it more and I so prefer the pace of life down here. And the manners. Don't get me wrong, being at home has its moments but it could be a lot worse. And yup, saving quite a bit which is no bad thing currently!

of all the days for the internet to be really intermittent and buggy did it have to be the night when I want to email my 2MB presentation to myself and book a hire car for the morning? Really struggling to switch off and just go to bed with stuff undone but the webpages just won't load and I'm better off trying in the morning :sigh:

Notting Hill annoyed me because Julia Roberts's character is so self absorbed I can't figure out why anyone would fall in love with her  I'm not really into chick flicks but really enjoy Love Actually and Bend it like Beckham. Otherwise I'm more into Tarantino, V for Vendetta, Fargo, and stuff like In Bruges. My favourite film of all time is True Romance. Which has a happy ending

Edit: oh, and Monty Python.

I love Fargo too! My favorite films change all the time, but I love the Bourne trilogy, LOTR and things like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

I hope this snow doesn't stick around! I'm flying out to a conference in Austria next weekend and will be very put out if the tiny amount of snow here stops me getting to the large amount of snow in the mountains

I really want to go to Austria!! My mum says it's the most beautiful country! How is travelling for conferences? Do you get any time to see the place? Although in my subject most conferences are either somewhere in the UK or in the US. There is one in Italy that I really want to go to, it's basically for postgraduates, but if I get accepted I'll have to go in April during my dissertation studying and I worry I won't have the time. Maybe I should leave it for this year, if I stay for a PhD I will have all the time to go to conferences then... (well, not all the time, but the Masters seems to be flying by)

How important are postgraduate conferences? I mean, should we do our best to participate to as many as we can, or are they not as important since they only are for postgrads?

We're forecast a high of 34deg C today, which means where we live will probably get to around 37 or 38 late afternoon. So I'm not really relating to this snow talk properly right now.:ninja:
