Speaking from having looked at tons of pictures when researching gential piercing & from previous girlfriends I have had..trust me..they come in all shapes, sizes, a variety of colours, different amounts of lubrication, different smell to them, hair or no hair. There really isn't such thing as a 'normal' vagina.

The most variation usually comes in the labia minora (inner lips/labia) which can be tiny and barely noticable (like most girls you see in porn films..not like the majority) or more prominent and have a wavey or rippled look to them. They can vary in colour from a light pink to greyish (and every shade in between).

I think it's sensible to have a check up if you are worried. As for going twice in 1 week. They are big on confidentiality so don't worry about returning without your friend, they will understand and respect the fact that you wanted privacy.

On another note, you should take the time to properly get to know your body once you are sure everything is OK. It is important to know how your vagina normally looks and smells. That way if there is ever a problem you can spot it early on. Same as periodically checking your breasts for anything abnormal. There's nothing gross about fulling checking out your equipment. Plus you can take comfort in the fact that it looks a heck of a lot nicer than what men have hanging off the front of them..the last chicken in the shop look!

Also the thing is, i promised my friend that I would go with her to the GUM clinic as she wants to go too just for a general check up since she's never had one. I don't know what to do because I don't want to have to discuss 'oh yeah I got genital warts' with her when we're done there!

Surely you won't be in the same room when you're both getting checked? And if you do have any problems you don't have to tell her, and the dr can't because of patient confidentiality

Yeah I doubt we'll be in the same room or anything like that, but what if they hand me a prescription and send me over to the pharmacist in the building?..Or is that a complete no-no for them to do?

Thank you for your understanding comment! I do plan to go to the GUM clinic as soon as I manage to get an appointment (it's one of those places where you can only make an appointment at 8.30 in the morning for the following day!X( ) And yes, i will properly examine myself after I have the tests and (hopefully) get the all clear!
No problem anon. I'm a really big advocate of these clinics. Especially since I live between Canada and the UK & there really isn't anything of this sort available in Canada. It's a real pain in the ass that it's so hard to get an appointment but they really are doing great work at educating & providing help & contraception. I tend to go to clinics rather than the doctor's because they will actually listen to your problems and provide a practical solution. You aren't in and out the door 2 mins later with a prescription.

Don't worry yourself too much, you'll prob get the all clear from them. I always get that horrible sense of nerves getting tested..even if I'm 99% sure I'm fine! Best of luck..
