Bleep test

Hi, I know variations of this question have been asked before but none of the threads seem to answer this query. What would other users consider a respectable pass rate? I realise that its all about motivation and pushing your limits but if your limit was something like level 4 would they still consider you? I'm doing my first practice test this weekend and I'm starting to get really nervous as my fitness has completely slid due to final year uni/jobs/weddings/etc.

About 10 probably I'd say, that's what I'm aiming for when I do it next.

It's all about practicing it and getting a better score the next time.

For the RAF you should be getting 9.10 +

For the Army you should be getting 10.5 +

Don't know about the Navy, correct me if I'm wrong about the other two.

Another post from me...........

If you get something like 4 you are likely to fail your medical as your probably injured, clinically obese, or other medical problem (no I'm not an MO, but well it's pretty obvious) preventing you from performing. Even when I was a really tubby 13 year old I managed to get level 8, so 8+ should be easily attainable for anyone applying for the armed forces.

I'm only talking about levels for men, I don't know what the women need, something pathetic like 3 or so(Armed Forces are turning PC so let women do easier fitness tests for the same jobs, except for CFTs which are easy anyway).

Thanks for the advice guys, at least it'll give me a rough idea where I'm standing when I do do the practice! However I resent being told that womens standards are pathetic; there are numerous studies that state men are naturally physically superior to women so why should the fitness tests be the same? It doesn't mean that they standards are lowered because we're delicate little flowers, it's because there is a physical difference between the genders. The people in charge have taken note of this and adjusted the standards accordingly.

Qui Audet Vincit - I'm not one to rant about men versus women, but an average woman's VO2 max is much, much lower than a mans - around 33 for women in her early 20's. Funnily enough that equates to 6.10 on the bleep test - the level a woman of that age has to acheive at OASC.

Please do your research before making throwaway comments like that.

Lol Demidot - we posted basically the same comment at the same time!

Lol, good timing! Thanks for the info on womens scores - I'm going for Navy but its good to have a standard to aim above. And to be fair I am not fit enough to make level 10 within the next three weeks!

If your not as physically strong why should you have an equal chance to do the jobs that require the strength? All I'm saying is same physical standards for the same job.

Well they've only started to do what should be done - The Combat Fitness Test is a good example of this - the men and women have to carry same weight and do it in the same time.

EDIT: Women struggle far more than men obviously - but it's a fair test. Why should women get longer to do it or get to carry less weight?

Actually, I dont think 10 is a respectable pass rate, when 9.10 is the minimum standard. I would say over 11, or nearer 12 is more respectable. All the guys on my FAM visit (well the 25's and under) all got over 11.

A 20 something woman with a VO2 max of 35 is fairly fit, a 20 something man with a VO2 max of 35 is not fit. They are trying to find out how fit you are with the bleep test. They don't want to have to train a bunch of couch potatoes who can't run 400 metres before collapsing in a heap.

For the DETAPO course I'm on women are expected to get the same 1.5 mile time as the men - unfair?

Please correct me if I'm wrong but can't a woman with X Vo2 max, run as fast as a man with a higher VO2 max? Absolute VO2 max relies on weight anyway.

1.5 miles times are supposed to relate to bleep test scores (apparantly)

i dont see how that is, its a completely different style of running. You start off at a faster pace. The intensity will be higher on the 1.5 mile run, as you are wanting to run at 8.5-9 mph all the time. Also, you dont have to start and stop on the 1.5 miles. sounds pretty rubbish to me. Where you find that out?
I will post on arrse and find out the answer.

Yes they are, but you take weight into consideration to get the absolute VO2 max. Women are lighter and have a higher percentage of body fat. A woman scoring a VO2 max of 35 on the 1.5 mile run will have ran faster than a man scoring 35.
The best fitness for role test is the CFT

A lot of things can be used to measure VO2 max - the 1.5 mile run is very popular for this. I'm having mine done tomorrow on a stationary bike.

well obviously they will relate to it slightly. Example, someone who gets a score of 14 on the bleep test, will do better than someone who got a score of 9.10! but i cant see the actual scores relating to the 1.5 miles run.
