Some sports guys I know are in exactly the same mind as the advice you've been given, but others think its better to have sex the night before, or on the day as it gets you "fired up". Just do what you want, I doubt there's going to be that much of a difference.
Didn't do George Best any harm did it?

Hmm....dam.

So horny.....so many decisions....
Oh please, just do both. I mean seriously - it's a lame reason not to have sex and it won't make the slightest difference I am sure.

FINE if I have to.

(Its great britain trials, its pretty serious, so thats why I'm worried  )
Well, if you snap you're banjo you won't be able to perform!

Y'know, I bet that "rule" was made up by some single guy who was jealous of those with partners. :P

Anyway, apart from making you possibly a bit more tired, I can't see the detrimental effects it could have on your performance the next day.

As for this testosterone business, I think it doesn't matter all that much. If deep down you are truly excited and willing to succeed, then I don't see how you'll need it.

Testosterone will allow you to go longer, physically.

If these trials are really that important for you, surely one night of no nooky will hurt?? Just to ease your mind i guess.
However i seriously doubt it will have any effect apart from on your brain.
I'd do it. But I like sex more than sport.
Try bench pressing the most you feel you can possibly do, then knock one out, and try to bench press the same weight 20 minutes later.
"i reckon it relaxes you
a good thing for rowing!"

That's not how our Boat Club testosterone theory goes...

If you want to have sex, then do it. However, do NOT stay up all night doing it as obviously then you won't be on top form. And if it's going to make you worried that you might not be at your best, that in itself is a psychological factor that will count against you. It's up to you; but I'd say if you're not sure then don't

Haha - cheers for the great replies guys -

Two very distinct schools of thought. I think in the end its not guna make a difference.

Annoyingly, (going into graphic detail now sorry) my gf had to come off the pill temporarily and condoms 'disagree' with me so I may have to go cold turkey!

Actually, theres always.........other things that can be done. All is not lost!

Boston, Lincs here I come!

Good luck with the race!

Or do it after the Sport?
They did it on braniac, found out that you perform better after sex, so go for it!

Brainiac was a little less adult last time I saw it!

I agree with Helenia, it's probably more psychological; if you do it, you'll be wondering whether or not it has affected your performance, and that, not the sex itself will dent confidence and prevent you performing well. I'd say hold the sex until after the trial; that way if it goes well, it'll be even better.

I've got a big GB rowing trial on saturday, and going to see my girlfriend tomorrow, I've heard stuff like its bad to have sex before a big race or sporting event cuz it lowers you testosterone levels.....soo....less aggression....can't push yourself as hard...etc

I have heard this theory aswell, if your that bothered about it thoe just dont have sex, its only 1 night
