Red sore throat and tonsils

I was ok all day, then I started to get headaches in the afternoon, and then I ate some Mini Eggs and suddenly my throat started tickling like mad, and my tonsils are bright red and tickling and I keep coughing every second, and when I drink water it makes the coughing worse, and the back of my throat is swollen and bright red just like the tonsils.

What is it?
How to cure it?

do nothing. if it gets alot worse or is still there in a weeks time go to the doctors.
your tonsils will go red and swell a little in any infection. its if you can see pus on them, or they swell significantly that you should be properly worried about tonsilitis.
you don't sound 'ill' enough to warrant anythign further than a couple of paracetemol and cup of cocoa at the moment.

why go anonymous?

So should I not bother with the docs, I have an appointment for Monday evening.

well to get rid of any infection, you need antibitoics, so obviously I need more than paracetemols, which anyway are not going to stop me from coughing/choking and throat tickling.

go see the doc saba sowwy :hugs::hugs: it could be tonsilitis (but that's pain so strike that) or maybe it's an infection :hugs: my poor darling :hugs:

No. Antibiotics work only with bacterial infections. considering your sore throat started today and you are headachy i would bet money on it being a virus. its your bog standard viral symptoms. you'll get a little feverish, perhaps a bit achey.
monday you might still feel a bit naff. but you'll be clearing the problem. if i was you i woudl set that appointment to thursday or friday. if you start to feel better by mid week then you can cancel it. if not then you may have a bacterial infection.

but if you go on monday, the odds are low the doc will prescribe anything.

And I go anonymous cos i wanna be the phantom helper

Colds and sore throats are usually viral infections, antibiotics will do nothing to help this. If you are worse and not getting any better in a week then go to the doctor cz then you may have possible picked up a bacterial infection too which could be helped with antibiotics.
As the other person said, have paracetamol and if its really bad take ibuprofen two hours after you take the parcetamol and keep alternating these medicines every two hours. Cold drinks will make you cough, take hot drinks only. Anyway, as the anonymous person said you don't sound that ill, just chill for a bit, you'll be better soon!

I have the same, as well as a crappy cold, no point going to Doc's, they'll give you Ibuprofen and tell you to rest and it'll go away by itself. Just drinks lots of OJ (Vit. C) and take some pain relief.

stop posting anon for no reason.

OK, bear in mind I have no way of asking this question without sounding impertinent/rude. I really don't mean to be...

Is there a rule aginst anonymously posting helpful information?
I know you don't see the point, but its important to me. I wish to answer/talk on H&R without people in other areas of the site knowing.

you might get a warning from the mods. they could say it's abusing the anon function and then they'll take it off completely.

yeh i know.i wanted to be an agony aunt on here but one of the mods said it would defeat the aim of H&R.
i know you're not abusing it and you're helping in a way,but also in a way you're abusing it as well.

coz if they take it off, people wouldn't be able to say all the stuff they might find embarrassing.and might not ask for help and stuff. and the mods can see you even though you're anon...so really...there isn't any point being anon and then signing your name at the end of it. i can see where you're coming from but you know..there's no point. x

Valid, I'll stop adding Cee at the end (its not a sig i use elsewhere on the site, so couldnt be attributed to me.)

Reply 14

still...nevermind you seem very adamant to use the anon so whatever,i'll stop bothering myself.

i think at worst posting helpful/pleasant replies anonymously is 'pointless'. its certainly not abusive, nor against any rule.
As blissy said "I don't think it's necessary to dictate to people when they should want to protect their identity and when they shouldn't".

Hope your throat is feeling better

It is much better now thanks, I gargled my throat with salted water and its much better, still red, but no more tickling

Ive had it for just over a week now, its a virus and the dr pretty much told me theres nothing she can do so im screwed. I've given up drinking cough syrup because i had 2 bottles in a few days and it just didnt help matters really, in small or large dosages. The best thing you can do is to take some paracetemol, or if your drinking ibruprofen .
