I don't think we're thinking the same person, but I also happen to be thinking of a person who did it from LSE > Oxford (E+M), never heard of it the other way round though~
Know of someone who went from Warwick to LSE (Econ to Econ).

Still, not sure I'd recommend doing it.

no i meant 'transfer' as in LSE external study student, n transferring to LSE...i think i didn't manage to state things clearly in the 1st post ^^"", since i was quite sleepy when i wrote that ^^"".

i just enrolled into this UOL external programme, with the lead college being LSE. its a 1-yr long course, diploma in econs. i'm starting in May this yr. i'm just curious to know if there are any external study students who managed to get transfer into LSE thats all...is it difficult for an external study student to transfer into LSE Yr 2?
is it possible? I thought no student was allow to do so. Or is that for law only?

well you can try, its been done before, but theres no gurantee you would be accepted. Personally, i wouldnt do it because:
1) theres not much difference in rep between ucl, lse, warwick
2) if you didnt get accepted at lse, you'd have to stay at warwick/ucl and the teachers may not like you as much as you tried to leave the uni and may hold a personal grudge.
3) you have to make friends all over again.
i agree. it's a pretty big risk if you ask me. Better think twice.Which uni are you currently at?

Hi,
well, students under the UoL external programme can transfer, but they need to meet the minimum entry requirements.
The minimum entry requiremnets are passes in all four subjects of the diploma in economics with an average over sixty. That is a tall ask, considering the standard that is set, but not impossible, and with a dint of hard work you could get there. LSE external study does give a full scholarship to a malaysian student who secures distinction in the diploma in economics to transfer into the 2nd year of LSE

Why would you not recommend doing it?

Well, there is no risk what so ever, as if you have the requirements, then they will definitely take you in. Students on the external programme have gone on to graduate with First CLass Honours at the LSE, and some have even gone on to complete the PhD @LSE

Who would you live with? Where? Who will you know?

There is a cost to regaining all the knowledge that makes life 'liveable' in a place like London for uni.

Moreover, what will you do if you don't like it?

well, you could find accomodation. Studnets have tranbsferred from the external programme previousky. You should inform Mrs Gosling, director, LSE external study. She will help you out. And you could adjust. I've been there. It's not soo bad.. or soo good as you think.

Although you do need to do well on the Diploma, the exam results dont come in until late july aug of the year you do your exam and if you plan on goin to any uni in the UK for second year you'll have to apply as soon as you start your diploma. (so start diploma in 2005, apply 2005 for 2006 2nd year entry) and at that time all you can do is send in your predicted grades for the foundation units...

so the decision whether to admit you or ot by the uni will be made by the grades you got at a-levels (or highschool, IB whatever it is), your personal statement (and a little influenced by your predicted grades for the foundation units in the diploma)

basically, if u didn't have good results for your a-levels, you probably wont get into 2nd year at the LSE...simply because at the time they're making their decisions, they (and you) will have no idea how you're goin to do at the diploma exams.

HOWEVER, you could finish the degree externally and DO REALLY well, and then transfer to LSE for masters

i hope that made sense:smile:

well see my previous post in this thread for the drawbacks of transferring. I dont think you can do it secretly since UCL have to write your reference? Why dont you take a gap year and reapply to lse. UCL wont be happy if you're going there, but you know that you want to leave after the first year before you've even arrived! You could take a gapy year instead? or you could simply do a masters at lse once you've finished at ucl if you really want the lse name on your cv?

actuaLLy i just want to make up my mind....
lyk if therez a chance of going to LSE in 2nd year...so i shud work reaL hard in the 1st year .... n if therez not ... i can party lyk majority....
but who knoz...probably after 1st year ...i might want to stay at UCL rather than seeking admission in LSE....
and as far as those drawbacks are concerned....
many of my frndz here got offerz from CITY UCL BRUNEL n IMPERIAL ... so we all wud b tgether...even if anyone is going to another koLLege...we can hang out together.....
secondLy ... aLL teachers are mature .... its not lyk im harming their reputation or sumthng..or doing sumthng against them....lyk everyone has a right to chose watever he wants ...n if it aLL i try to transfer in 2nd year..iLL b pretty smooth....

n i cant take a GAP year .... cant waste one year over LSE ..
thx for the help Ba_Ba 1 ...
Is it really harsh if I say... well, you won't be missed?
