i believe that its 650-750 words including the graph explanations and wording. It excludes the cover page and any quotes you make.

yes. 650-750 words

excludes the cover sheet so just the main text and graphs

remember you get penalized for writing below or beyond the range!

Ehm... The instructions says everything (I'd say everything after your front page), including graphs, footnotes, etc.

*methinks exceeding word counts might have been one of the main reasons why her econ IA were moderated down from 20 to 17.

I discussed the issue with my teacher. You'd have to make a cost-benefit analysis. If you look at the criteria, you can only lose out one mark out of 20 for exceeding the word count. On the other hand, the examiner is not required to read anything exceeding your word count.

My friend recommended cutting out all the "the" :p: . Some of the "good" sample essays/exam answer scripts we got to read were written in so poor English it seems not to make any difference at all. Remember that no marks are given for accurate grammar/effective communication (=one of the main differences compared to uni essays).

Hehe

My teacher told us that the article counts in the word count.. that can't be right can it? Because that doesn't seem fair and seems kinda pointless..

That sounds incredibly farfetched.

Footnotes are included and graph labels are included, which reminds me, I forgot to count my labels for the IA I handed in today...Ah well plenty of time to look at it again next year.

Ragnar, still lurking around the IB forums after finishing? :p:
