I think drinking is a relaxant so it doesn't do you alot of good.

I drink loads (as students do) and I've noticed a muscle build up in my right drinking arm, lol

and no not by doing that.. you mucky people..

Yes.

Alcohol slows down protein synthesis.... leading to reduced muscle growth. It also slows down the bodies ability to burn fat etc...

But lighten up... if you're not a pro bodybuilder then drink a little. Lifting and drinking is better than not lifting at all.

I'm pretty sure i heard that when men drink it leads to an increase in oestrogen levels (female hormone) and this is counter productive to muscle growth. i maybe wrong of course and im sure i'll be corrected if so but im pretty sure i heard that somewhere.

unless ur a professional athlete or drink A LOT i wouldn't worry about it...you should see how much my rugby team mates drink....doesn't do them any harm...actually wait a second....they're SH*T....but so am i. take what you will from my wise advice...

yes it does. alcohol is crap.

since I've been training with weights, I've completely gone off alcohol. I had a bottle of Carlsberg a week or so back when we were watching Match of the Day and thats been it in about the last 6 weeks

When you get into the habit of mentally working out the value of paying for food, ie "is this worth it? enough protein/carbs?" etc, and you're trying to bulk up on a tight budget, alcohol just seems like a waste of money

also when you're trying to make sure you get enough sleep, staying up all night getting bladdered doesn't help either

but overall, when I'm tired from the gym I just don't "feel" like alcohol any more, its just as though my body is saying no. If I had heard myself saying this before I'd started training, I'd have thought I'd turned boring but I genuinely haven't missed it at all.

Each to their own - some like to drink, I'd rather spend on being healthy

Yes alcohol inhibits muscle growth and I think it's stupid anyway I mean a pint is just 300 empty calories

Reply 9

but it tastes nice

Reply 10

And feels good.

makes you feel like **** though.

you can drink and put on muscle at the same time of thats your question, but going to excess will probably hinder you. I only socially drink anyway and hardly ever get totally pissed.

When i did religiously go down the gym i didnt drink at all (didnt really want to either) but decided that the company and conversation of a good few lifelong friends over a pint is much more rewarding than gaining a few pounds of muscle. drinking dosent automatically = bad health either as some would have you believe.

I havent been to the gym for 6 months now, and doing just a few pressups etc on alternate days havent lost any muscle.
