Pill Issue (Sorry - yes another one!)

Right, I have very irregular periods at the moment, and I would like to go on the pill to sort them out and also to use as contraception. I was on dianette for a couple of months about a year ago (primarily to improve my acne) but I became very withdrawn, moody and depressed and naturally I came off it and havent been on any pill since. I am very happy at the moment and dont really want to risk becoming unhappy again, and preferably not putting any weight on!
I know everyone's bodies respond differently to each pill but is anyone on a pill that hasn't caused them any problems or sideffects? (esp. hormonal unbalances/moodiness).

Thank you xx

I've been on Microgynon 30 for almost 2yrs now and have never had any problems with it.

I've changed three times now, each for different reasons. One of them gave me really bad pms, the other seemed to make my spots worse, but the one i'm on now suits me.

If you speak to your doctor or the women's health nurse at your local surgery they'll offer you the best one they can. If it doesn't work for you, then there are others to try.

I quote my doctor "Just experiment. These things are personal and individual."

I'm afraid it's not possible to ask people what pill is going to prevent bad side effects because everyone is different. There is a certain amount of experimentation which has to be done to find the right one for you. One thing you should try is starting off on a very low dose pill, which is what a doctor will prescribe when you are just starting to take it.

If you want to discuss different types of pill and how they will affect you, as well as alternative methods of contraception, I would recommend going to a family planning/sexual health/GUM clinic. Many GP's won't have an in depth knowledge of contraception whereas the doctors and nurses working at these clinics deal with a lot of contraception choices and issues. You can book appointments just for information & you will generally get a lot more time to sit down and discuss different options unlike in a doctor's surgery where they are usually rushing through too many patients.

I found that the mini pill made me depressed, but am now on microgynon and have had no problems. However, like others have said it is impossible to tell how your body is going to react. I'd urge you to keep trying though, it's common to get through several different pills until you find one that suits you.
Proof that everyone is different...quite a few people here have said Microgynon has given them no problems at all, but I came off it because it gave me really bad headaches!!! Talk the decision through with your doctor...I started to become very moody on Ovysmen, which the doctor thought might be because of the progesterone levels so changed me to Yasmin. If you discuss your history and preferences to your doctor they will be able to find the best one for you.
