I'm at Dundee so I'll offer my two cents. The University itself is situated in a really nice part of the city, right between the city centre and the west end. Most students stay in this area and so there's a real student-y atmosphere, lots of friendly people in the same place. City centre itself is pretty nice, it's pretty dominated by the Overgate (shopping centre) but it's convenient to have because you have most shops you need in one place and it's literally 5 minutes walk away from halls. As a Londoner you might feel like Dundee is small, but I'm from a small town so it's just the right size for me. Don't personally know anyone doing Law, but I know the uni has a good reputation for it and the Scrymgeour (don't ask me how to pronounce it) building where the Law dept. is based seems really nice. To be honest most of the uni buildings are quite nice (with the exception of the Tower and the MSI) and modern, it makes it feel like a place which is really up-and-coming. The stories you hear about the city being a 'dump' are grounded in some truth, every city has it's bad parts, but to be honest as a student you don't have much reason to venture into these areas. I know that I haven't in the time I've been here. One bit of advice I can offer you is don't look around on Google streetview because it's really out of date and makes the place look horrible (I know because I came to Dundee without visiting it first and was curious as to what it actually looked like), I think most people are pleasantly surprised when they actually visit Dundee and see that it is weirdly, quite a nice place.
