Year 1 uni - alchohol

I realise alot of ppl drink alcohol and equally that some 1styears dont drink any. but despite the cleshay it is fairly well known that year 1 uni is a bit crazy. it certainly is for me and i was just wondering on average how many nites a week ppl go out drinking - also how much u tend to drink. (i dont need a lecture tho i just wna know what is normal)

Normal is to get drunk every night. I'm sure many students are alcoholics as it seems to be a very frequent past-time and getting "wasted" every night.

I on the other hand have refrained from consuming alcohol for the last 4 months or so.

I go out 2 or 3 times a week, probably drink the equivalent of 5-7 double vodkas and cokes most nites, sometimes more, somtimes less.

i go out at least 2 nights in the week, sometimes 3, and then i go out at the weekend when back home. i usually drink about 9-10-11 double vodka redbulls as theyre £1.50!

I go out about twice a week and get absolutley wasted every time- never remember how much i drunk just know it was a lot!

last year: i went out every other night and got drunk each time. probably about once a week i'd get completely wasted, drinking about 20+ units of alcohol.

this year: i go about once or twice a week and definitely drink a lot less!

And students complain they have no money...

I am in a fairly timid house by some respects, i know people in other houses who get wasted every night, we tend to drink socially most the time and go out properly maybe once or twice a week...

On a night out i would probably drink the equivalent of 10-15 pints or so, i tend not to drink to excess much any more... freshers week it was probably a hell of a lot more! That was a constant state of drunkness! In the week we will often just have a crate handy and have a few bottles in the evening or something when we have finished for the day!

I spend all my money on going to football so cant afford much more than that - its my choice though what i spend money on...

My boyfriend's best friend can count the number of days he's woken up WITHOUT a hangover on one hand. Not good. Was even worse for his bank account, when I spoke to him just before he was due home for Christmas, he had £13 of his loan left.

I think i spent about £350 in freshers week... i know people whose loans were gone by the end of freshers week. I only survived last term because i raided my savings!! This term i have worked out i have 50p spare a week until easter. But as i say, i goto football every week which costs about £80 a time as well as run a car which i use once a week so its hardly surprising.

Going out isn't cheap at all. Drink is expensive.

Some of my mates have spent vast quantities of their loans on boozing, and then wonder what happened to it all.

in the first term i went out 2/3 nights a week and spend roughly 15 a week on drinks a week. This term i go out 1/2 a week sometimes i dont go out.... work comittments... so this term so far ive got really drunk only twice i think.
Drink is cheap when you drink Tesco Vodka (£9.94 a litre). That's good for pre-drinking for about 3 weeks. Then about £15 a night after that. Therefore, in theory I should only spend about £33 a week on alcohol. The rest goes on impulse buying.
I should only spend about £33 a week on alcohol.

£33 a week is the best part of a grand over the academic year.
And I expect, actually I know, there's people who spend a LOT more than that.
I go out roughly twice a week. But i don't drink much when i do go out, just enough to feel 'happy', as i don't see the point in getting wasted, when i am perfectly fine with just a little alcohol and a drink in my hand.

And I expect, actually I know, there's people who spend a LOT more than that.

Indeed. Yet students as a group often complain about a lack of money, running up debts etc.

d'you reckon it would be a social no-no NOT to drink that much in your first year?
