cervical lump

OK I'm really worried about a lump i've found on my cervix today. I cant go to the doctors cause i'm going on holiday tomorrow for a month with my friends. I really don';t know what to do or how likely this is that its something really bad: like cancer. i'm going to be in america so i can't afford doctors bills there. Is there anything i can do? has this ever happened to anyone and its turn ed out to be nothing bad?
I can't give you any medical advice, but I suggest you call your doctor right now to see if you can get an appointment. They get cancellations, even if it's not with your regular doctor. I'm sure it's nothing but you don't want to be worrying about it for a month when you're meant to be on holiday. Free medical care is crap or perhaps non existent in the US.

Also it could be that the lump you're feeling *is* your cervix. It can become more pronounced at certain times due to hormonal changes.

Exactly what I was going to say. Do you know what your cervix normally feels like? If you don't, then you might just be feeling the cervix itself. If you do and there's been a change then you need to check with a doctor.

If you don't go and see a doctor, this could be the last holiday you take. Cancer is to be given priority - if left, it could mutate, and become uncurable, leading to death. If you care about yourself in any way, you will go to your doctor before your holiday, or this will be the last nice part of your life

This is a strong possibility of cancer. DO NOT LET IT GO UNTREATED. Please, this is more important than a holiday.

From wikipedia :
a vaginal mass may indicate the presence of malignancy

You really need to go to the doctor, or even to A&E if you can't get an appointment. Seriously, leaving it a month could be the difference between life and death.

ok i've tried ringing the doctor, hospital and clinic and there are no appointments available for at least a week. ****
For gods sake guys, don't panic the poor girl.
In all likelyhood with your age group and the presentation it will be nabothian cyst. this is when one of the glands in your endocervix that secretes mucus gets gunked up. I've seen them before - they look like small round lumps, and aren't generally painful.
However. THey don't clear by themselves. the mucus that is gunked up becomes harder as water is reabsorbed. it will need treating with cryotherapy or electrocautery.
So you will need to see the doctor sooner or later.

The likelyhood you have anything cancerous is vvvvvvvvv slim. so my advice is this - if you think you are going to be retting for the enxt month about it then go to the docs now.
if you think you can forget about it and enjoy yourself then do so and see the doc when you get back.

thank you for the reassurance anon2. i'm obviously researching online as well and as i have no symptoms other than a lump I was wondering about a cyst. No bleeding, no unusual discharge or smell, no pain or itching. All the sites on cervical cancer suggest that youd have symptoms other than a lump, such as bleeding or feeling tired and run down. I'm 19, in good health (athlete), dont drink or smoke and generally feelling great and very lively. I know that people who are generally healthy can get cancer but at my age is it really that likely?

Cancelling my holiday means losing a lot of money, flights, hotel reservations, booked in for some trips to all the tourist places. the trip is to celebrate me turning 20 soon and i've been saving up for nearly 4 months. it would break my heart to cancel but obviously i dont want to be really irresponsible if i'm at danger. plus then i have to tell my parents and friends some reason for cancelling the day before we leave. my friends could probably still go but would be really upset by me backing out now.

I would stake my reputation. you have none of the symptoms, none of the risk factors, and are way off the peak age.
unless you lost your virginity at 12 and have been putting it about ever since, the likelyhood is incredibly slim.
go on holiday, have fun, and deal with what is essentially a painless lump when you get back.

also is it possible that this might be an std or something to do with my combined pill (cilest)? i've had unprotected sex with my current boyfriend and have been doing so for the past few months. i trust him to be clean but i guess there is a possibility he lied about this. i trust him totally but i have to consider all possibilities.

I'm sure that your friends would be upset if you came on the holiday, did have cervical cancer, and died. They will forgive you for being careful and checking. If you don't get this checked out, you might not turn 21. Please, even though the chance is MINISCULE, it's still there, and needs to be checked out. You can go to a doctor within the next week, and fly out to your holiday a bit late. You're young - don't make this your last holiday.

I hate to be so gloomy, but cancer is serious, and even the remotest possibility needs to be checked.

I have something that sounds similar...does it feel like a firm lump, kind of like cartlidge, not painful to touch? I had mine examined and was told it's a cervical ectropion (also known as an erosion- google it), its where some cells that are usually inside the cervix grow and appear outside on the surface of the cervix and forms a firm raised area.

It's completely harmless, only slight complication in that it can sometimes bleed during sex. It would most likely be to do with taking the combined pill- it can be caused by hormones so more likely if you're on the pill/pregnant etc.

It really sounds to me like this could be what you have. Cervical cancer is just incredibly unlikely. As the doctor said to me when i went to see her about it- they've stopped calling women under 25 for smear tests as it was pointless, so few were ever diagnosed with cancer from it. Cancerous cells take about 10 years to develop to the extent you'd start to notice a lump (and only will start to develop after sexual intercourse), so unless you were sexually active at 9 (?!), the chances of it being anything malignant are incredibly remote.

Obviously go and get it checked for peace of mind- but it is most likely to be a cyst as someone said, or an ectropion. I really wouldnt consider cancelling your holiday- make an appointment for when you get back, and try not to worry about it.
