recently a few of my university friends and I have been talking about having group sex, with about 4 or 5 people possibly involved, do you think this would be a good idea as we are all friends so i don't see repercussions because of this. has anyone else participated in this, and if so would you recommend it?
You have cool friends

If it's an open minded experiment, with all parties knowing what they are getting themselves into and that it is for fun, no emotional basis for it, I see no reason why.

Everyone is saying "it'll be awkward after", "they might be crap" etc. Perhaps sleeping with each other seperately before hand might remove the strangeness of all getting undressed and feeling stupid when you don't know where to start?
I don't know, I've neither done it or considered it, but I figured if you'd already slept with the other people it might ease tension a bit?

Good luck anyway, let us know how it goes!

In The Kitchen!

Hmm. Interesting topic... As said before if you feel fine with it, and everyone is agreed then why not? I mean experimentation is always fun.. Just hope it works out ok for you.

Would probably make things a bit awkward don't you think? Friends don't generally just decide to have sex...they go to the pub or something...
Agreed, and you probablly dont know them aswell as you think.
Then like some else said its pretty much adultery, then theres the risk of 1 person getting feelings for one of the other people in it, then theres the risk of infection, and well if you (if your female) or whoever got pregnant then there would be huge problems.
The list goes on and on, group sex is more for porn and mature responsible adults.
And dont dare say "Oh but im a mature adult", because when i say it i mean late 20's early 30's and so on aged people

If there are a group of 4 or 5 people, how can you find them all attractive sexually? You've got to be really not picky...

My girlfriend really fancied her best friend. Her best friend was far from being ugly but I would never sleep with her in a million years.

If everyone thought like that, then we might as well sleep with anyone we find just a bit attractive... In situations where people make bad judgements and are hurt afterwards, do you actually think that they don't believe "everyone's open-minded" and "it's just a bit of fun" before it happens?

Being a ******* doesn't stop a guy from convincing a girl "it's just a bit of fun" and then treating her like some kind of slut. The opposite situation exists too. It's a huge turn-on for guys to be able to treat a girl like a slut. "A slut in the bedroom" is the best thing ever...and to get that, they're capable of saying all kinds of ********s to make a girl feel better about doing it. Once they've been able to treat the girl like a slut and sow their seed, well who cares about the girl anymore? I'm saying girl/guy because that's the most common situation but I've been through situations where the roles were inversed.

You have to be a bit more clever than just thinking "it's all a bit of fun, as long as everyone's open-minded".

We aren't talking about a guy sweet talking a girl he's just met into sleeping with him. The OP said it would be between a group of friends, and that they have been talking about it. If everyone is clear on the situation before hand, and as friends, I think the girls (or guys) would notice if their friend was playing up just to get them to do something they want from them?

Sure, sure, in an ideal world. My post was about more than just guys sweet-talking girls and it was about people always saying idealistic stuff like "if everyone is open-minded" no matter what the situation, not just this one. Again, do you think that people who get hurt in such situations are just stupid, that they don't think that everyone's intentions are good? You need good judgement. That's all I'm saying. These situations are not risk-free for your health and for your social life.

I'm just telling her to be careful instead of listening to some 16-year olds saying "Group sex is so cool. Me mate Bob had a threesome once with some models when he was 15. One of them was Kate Moss. He said it was well cool".

come on anonymous six ! you negative ******* :p: . i thought you were going to try optimism for a while. you've had your sarcy rant, lets see the what you think is positive, i know you like to portray possible dangers but i'm actually interested to what your actual, definitive stance is. I think your just being contentious ! :p:

and some girls love getting a little bit dirty in bed, it doesnt make them a slut. I think the bedroom is only one part of a relationship, and in my relationship its not a huge part and is compartmentalised. i.e, it doesnt affect how we see each other the rest of the time. Indeed, virtue philosopher MacIntyre urges us to "compartmentalise" our lives, we should have our work face, our party face our sex face etc - as the values of one lie not in the other. So you can have fun in bed, and role play and experiment as long as it stays there, in the past / in the bedroom.

Why is it that only a minority will do a thing like this? (In reference to the thread title)

:toofunny: Exactly! And the fact that 'Bob' always reminds me of the dude on That 70s Show doesn't make the name too credible.

EDIT: To stay on topic, Dekota, what am I supposed to think about?

Yes but there's enough naive optimism as it is.

'Within a relationship' is the keyword and what makes such decisions like having casual sex ever the more riskier when it comes to your social life.

Why is it that only a minority will do a thing like this? (In reference to the thread title)

Think about it.
Actually in some European countries, about 10% of married couples try swinging at some point of their life. It's not done that much because when confronted with the situation, some people actually think about it and realise it's more than just "having fun". It does have implications.

The joke being that people make up stories...and unfortunately, when we're young, we actually fall for those stories. A lot of peer pressure at school is created by people inventing stories and we try to 'live up' to some reference that is made up. Remember those kids in high school who made up those ridiculous stories about having had sex but you never actually met the person they were talking about and only years later did you realise how made up the whole story was? This is especially the case in Britain. Because of all these fabricated stories, by the time they turn 16, even though the majority (more than half) have not lost their virginity, some kids think they're behind simply because of people 'bragging' about things they never did. Sorry, a bit off-topic there...

Can I ask you how old you are? Not so that I can make fun of it or say you're not any better yourself, but just out of curiosity.

And I actually don't think most people here who said they'd participated in group sex (meaning anything with more than two people) were lying about it or 'made it up'. But I could be wrong..
