For example, for Biology/Chemistry/Physics etc it's purely a case of learning facts and formulae (though I'm sure some scientists will correct me on this!)


You're right they will. There's just a little bit more to it than that.
Not to detract from your original point about the value of a language degree though.
I am always deeply envious of linguists as I really am not very good at language learning. I am however going to make a genuine effort to do it through evening classes at uni...
