calf cramps

i got a REALLY bad cramp in my calf on monday, and i still cant walk properly without being in pain. it feels like the muscle has been torn badly. Is it possible for bad cramps to do this?
might have todo with the fact that when i got it i was walking somewhere and i didnt really rest and massage it just kept on hobbling along with a cramp. i gues sif it is torn ill just have to wait for it to repair yes?

cheers

If it was torn you wouldnt be walking....

It could be a pulled muscle, i havent heard of them being caused by cramp, a cramp is normally caused by lack of salt in a diet... I imagine it is possible to pull a muscle whilst walking, which is likely what you have done, just rest as much as possible - that is probably all a doctor would say, but i am pretty sure its not torn.

well i definitely dont have a lack of salt, have too much if anything.

If i had rested when i got it for a few minutes im sure it would be fine now but i kept on trying to walk at a rather fast pace while it was cramped. pretty sure this is whats done it.

Cramp can be horrific and the pain can last for days. You need to get the circulation going to get rid of the waste products in the muscle. Try some calf pumps and stretching. Ask someone to rub it for you (upwards). Salt can be a factor but this is more of an indication that you are dehydrated. It will loosen off and is highly unlikely that it is torn. Walking is the best thing you can do if you have a cramp (if it is possible and not too painful). Hope you feel better soon.

Nah, it can take up to about 3 days to stop hurting if you've had bad cramp.
You probably compressed an artery while you were asleep. It will feel like it's torn but it's not... it sucks.

Try sitting with your legs straight in front of you, and leaning forward to touch your toes.
Then go for a run.
Then have a bath.
That seems to help.

It is pretty much impossible to be deficient in salt, unless you've taken something that will make you sweat huge amounts very quickly.

Garbled advice, sorry.

I feel for you :hugs: I hate having cramp especially in the calf because it does hurt and I usually do have twinges in the calf for several days later. I've heard bitter ;emon is good for cramp especially if they are recurring cramps.

i cant hardly exercise it at all as soon as i put any weight on the ball of my foot it absolutely kills me. been rubbing it etc dosent seem to be doing much. had to walk to lectures aswell today and yesterday, so its been used slightly. im certainly not dehydrated.

Stretch it gently then, not so much it hurts but enough to feel a pull. Its hard to say without seeing it but it is most likley continued symptoms for the cramp. Try to keep it moving. If its not better in a few days go and see someone about it.

ok cheers for the help. im gonna rest it and go sleep. will see if its any better in the morning.
If you had done some exercise then the salt deficiency could have been a cause.... i used to constantly wake up screaming in the middle of the night with horrendous cramp, after i had played football that day!

Since i have added a little more salt to post football food, i have managed to stop most of that!
Get terrific cramps in lower calf when sleeping, the pain is excruciating enough to wake you very quickly. App eating bananas is meant to help prevent them, and pushing down on the sole of the foot during the cramping itself is again meant to be an aid.
