Lnat

hey all of you...!

I'm very confused about what I should do with the LNAT examinations...
Please is there anyone to help me get through? If I want to apply for the acadeic year 2007-2008 when should I take the LNAT? anyone who has passed them? How are they..?

Thank you! :p:
I am presuming your applying for 2007 Entry, which means that you will be applying through UCAS in the Autumn?
If this is true, you cannot apply to sit the LNAT just yet, I sat it this year and I'm fairly sure that the first date you could apply from was the 1st September 2005, therefore the first date you can apply from will be 1st September 2006.
To address your second query, there is no actual 'pass mark', merely a mark out of 30 is given, and you will not be aware of this result until the 31st January (at the earliest).
What usually happens is that each Uni has a certain mark they would like to see each potential undergraduate gain (higher for Oxbridge, lower for say UEA).
However there is no general consensus within each Uni as they are unable to share results with each other.
The second part of the test consists of an essay, which is reviewed by either the Admissions Tutor of your chosen Uni, or the Senior Subject Lecturer.
There is no actual mark for this, the reviewer is likely to be looking at style, structure, content and possibly conviction of your argument!
I had the question 'Is Society's main priority the protection of the environment'?.
I suggest the best thing to do is think outside the box, i.e. think of a different priority society should, or could be focussing on, i.e. cultural differences etc.
By employing this approach, it demonstrates the use of initiative, and the fact that you are considering the wider aspects of the argument. However it is also essential that you acknowledge the priority stated in the question.
Overall, I'd say it is better to an extent to be extreme in your argument, as it often helps to stick to your point.

1. You need to take it around September/October (see www.lnat.ac.uk for details)

2. It is HARD... be prepared for that.

3. There is a 30 question mutli-choice section that consists of 10 short paragraphs and questions on them. Then there is an essay on a random subject (you can choose from 5 titles).

4. There is no PASS mark. For the multi-choice, the average this year was 16.9 out of 30. For the essay, they send it to all of your unis so taht they can actually read it, but it will be marked on style of argument, clarity, succinctness, style of writing, and the like.

Suzi thnx very very much...
However, I called the test centre here in Cyprus and asked them about when is it possible to take the LNAT examinations and they informed me that I could take it whenever I wanted to. I asked for this year May or June and they told me that I could. I have examined the LNAT website and do know that I should register in September 2006 for the LNAT but does this mean that registering in September I could take them in June?
Moreover, I have ordered two books about Passing the LNAT successfully, but I am wonderin if I also need to attend English lessons. I am going to an English speaking school and even though I did pass all my GCEs O LEVEL with A* but the English language I passed them with a B. I am doing Economics, Law, Biology and Mathematics AS in Enlish though. Do you think I need to take some private lessons (my national language is Greek).
Thank you!

your posts seem perfectly eloquent and understandable to me!!
LNAT killer part is the MCQs. Essay...well out of 5 options to choose from there should be 1 which will be of your interest. Eg, last year i chose the topic ' should parents be allowed to choose the sex of their babies?'. It ain't that hard for the essay i would say.

Um im not sure that your test will be valid for uni entry 2007 if you take it in may this year...

im pretty sure that you have to take it from september onwards for it to be valid for 2007 entry. Look on the LNAT website.

Assuming that post didnt take you 3 hours and a dictionary to write, you should be fine :p:. Plus of course your English will only get better.

thank u for the books.. I've ordered them and hope to get easily through it..! :P Have you heard of the book "ACE the LNAT", form Cataga? Does it worth ordering it?

Ive not heard of it. I suggested those two because the reviews look reputable. They're a bit expensive but I hope they help.
