:ditto:

Symptoms?
sorry

Costochondritis is simply inflammation of the rib joints,
and attachments of intercostal muscles to the ribs, due to
persistant "bracing" of the intercostal muscles. So far,
the only known cause of this persistant tension of the
intercostal muscles is chronic stress-effect storage in
the hypothalamus.

Nope, sorry.

I don't quite understand how stress causes this either...

inflamation near the ribs..
It's just I have had a similar thing and went to the dr and he said i'd just bruised my ribs at the top quite badly.....Maybe you should go to the dr if only for pain relief and to make sure you're ok!!
Hope you are !!

I have it. I got it from stress after a bereavement nearly a year ago and still suffer. I use a lot of Neurofen gel to get the inflammation down, and try and do gentle stretches to strengthen the muscles around my ribs.

Also I make sure when I have a shower/bath I relax my muscles which provides good relief before I go to bed.

I try not to lift too heavy things and really make sure I don't twist awkwardly because that makes it a million times worse.
Does it feel like muchos pressure on your ribs down near the bottom of the sternum where they meet?

I have a chronically confused hypothalamus, so oodles of weird symptoms as a result which i shant go into, but I've noticed this pressure feeling recently and since you mentioned the hypo' I figure it might be related.

If it is similar, it feels a bit like a muscle cramp and happens mostly in the evenings [right now as it happens] when I'm lying down or half way between sitting and lying. If any of those muscles are slightly tensed I make a point of relaxing them completely and it seems to go away after an hour or two at most.
