a 'lovey dovey' mix cd

i'm making a mix cd for this girl -not technically speaking my girlfriend (but almost i'd like to think)
i was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for songs - i was hoping to stay away from the sterotypically or cheesey love songs but am struggling
so far;
last cigarette - bon jovi
crash into me - dave matthews band
all for believing - missy higgins
someone only we know - keane
the weakness in me - keisha white
although not all are love songs they all have that feel if you know what i mean?

also wondering if anyone else had made/received one and was it a success or should i give up before i put too much effort in??

Very lovey dovey

Heather Nova does some bad ass love songs. Anything on Siren: Heart and Shoulder, London Rain, Winter Blue, Paper Cup.
Josh Zandman - Beautiful
Damien Rice - Blower's Daughter, Amie....
Jewel - You Were Meant For Me
Coldplay - Yellow
Rufus Wainwright - Natasha (despite the fact he's homosexual)

A bit cheesy love songs

UB40 - Can't Help Falling In Love
Wannadies - You And Me
Space - The Female Of The Species
Tenacious D - **** Her Gently
Badly Drawn Boy - Once Around The Block

If you want to seem cool
Kubb - Grow
Nick Drake - Northern Sky
Pete Yorn - Just Another
Nouvelle Vague - I Melt With You (cover of Modern Talking, on the T-Mobile ad)

More melancholic than lovey-dovey

Sundays (or the Rolling Stones) - Wild Horses
Stephen Fretwell - Emily
This Way - Crawl
Three Colours Blind - Beautiful Day
Ryan Adams - Wonderwall
Pearl Jam - Around The Bend

thanks guys downloading some of those as we speak and already got 'only one' on my computer so its on there now - top choice

so what are people's general opinions of presents like this - mushy and sentimental or perhaps ott? or does it jus depend who gave it to you and how you feel about them?

Funnily enough, although I've never given a mixed cd to a girl (I once bought a Counting Crows album for someone once though) but I'd feel like giving her one if things weren't going so well or if she'd broken up with me.

Then again, that kind of attitude can lead to them thinking you're creepy...

Say which songs you like...
i would go with some of these....they're not stereotypical love songs, but they are love songs....they'd get the message across anyway....old soul tunes are the way forward if you can get them....

stay with me til dawn...Fac 15
Quiet storm....Smokey Robinson
Can we pretend.... Bill Withers
Inside My Love...Minnie Riperton
Blackstar....Yahzarah
Twilight...Elliott smith
Why do lovers?....Richard Ashcroft

uuuurgh i got a mixed cd once from a guy who was in love with me. He called it, rather appropriately, 'grace's mix' and i still shudder whenever i hear any of the songs included in that compilation. *shudder*

edit: BUT if you want a really cool pretty song, tracy chapman's 'devotion' all the way

haha my 'love' cd to my boyfriend at uni consisted of Disney songs to get him excited about our Disneyland holiday! I'm a lil bit gay like that  i just wanted it to be personal rather than cheesey love songs which other people thought of! All the separate Disney songs still meant something too tho. eg...Best of friends from fox & the hound, and Robin Hood cos he's at Nottingham Uni and i'm gonna be there in september with him   I also made him another one with our fave songs on, and songs that remind us of stuff..like zoo trips! lol. We sound so immature. good luck with your cd! xx

why on earth would i be bitter?! i wasn't the one who made the cd, i got given it! i just think it's a little bit of a weird and creepy thing to do, personally, if you've not actually been in a relationship with someone for long enough to have encountered songs with special meaning for the two of you.

just my opinion
A mix cd like this can only be interesting if it's very unique, doesn't contain too many songs the person would know (unless they're songs you know they like for sure).

How about a cd of you singing or playing the harmonica?
My boyfriend of 2 years made me one for our anniversary, it was really nice because they actually meant something to us. Some suggestions: Snow Patrol - Run, Lighthouse Family, Embrace. There's got to be loads more! I just can't think of them right now...
SamTheMan

that'd be a sure fire way to make her not speak to me ever again - i was blessed with many things, musical talent not being one of them - in fact i often think if there is a god he was taking the piss when he gave me this voice
thanks for the suggestion though
