I just want to get a sense of the points expected.

you've checked the official websites, which give a sense of what the university typical/minimums are for various qualifications..?

http://www.admissions.ox.ac.uk/courses/enreq.shtml

International qualifications
For students studying the International Baccalaureate, colleges will normally be looking for candidates who are likely to achieve at least 38 points. Many of our offers will normally be set at a higher level than this however, and will often specify 6 or 7 in one or more subjects at the higher level.
that's no really true .. how many of the IB students get 38 points for their offer letter ?? perhaps less than 10% ?

most of us are set offer for > 40 points .. some 42 and 43 ..

details of how much higher or specifications & bonus point technicalities etc. will probably depend on subject (&college?) though..
so silver-rose - you might be best off emailing the relevant people to ask more specifically what type of offer with your subject options & for the course you're interested in they normally give? haven't noticed many IB-ers on here so might not be the most helpful sample. & given IB isn't the typical entry qualification I'd imagine the admissions staff would be happy to try & help!
i see .. the last time i e-mailed jesus college .. they asked for 40 ++

Elles, yea i've contacted a few colleges, and all of them have no given me any definite answers...

their responses were something to the effect of "we have to judge in accordance to other data"

i would like to see some examples of real offers. ^^

The IB offers vary a LOT, even for the same subject or same college. My offer was 38 points with 776 in specified HL subjects - but I haven't met anyone else with that low an offer yet, and I've talked to lots of international students -; a schoolmate of mine got an offer from another college for the same subject (chemistry @ Oxford) of 40 points excluding bonus points, with 77 in specified HL subjects. Then again, someone in my college got an offer of 42 points with 77 in specified HL subjects.

On the other hand another schoolmate of mine got an offer (Physical NatSci @ Cambridge) of 40 points and 777 in a choice of four subjects, and another one (Maths @ Cambridge) got an offer of 777 in a choice of four subjects (+STEP), but no overall score. (Or at least it was something to that effect, I don't remember exactly any more.)

So the offers for the IB do seem to vary a lot more than the standard AAA offer which it seems everyone with A-levels seems to have got, and the colleges are right to tell you that it depends on lots of factors (though their precise nature seems to be quite indiscernible and mysterious).
Which college and subject are you thinking of applying to?

NatSci @ cambridge...

since i'm an international student, i have no real preference for colleges....i haven't been to any

which ones do you recommend?

actually...i don't even have a STRONG preference for oxford or cambridge....

i'm only leaning towards cambridge because the course is more expansive?

which one is easier to get in (i've heard both viewpoints on either side, i'm thinkin they're both the same level of diffuculty to get in)

^^^ whaawhaa!?!?
You have to get a 7 in HL math for law??
Reply 14
I think 7s in HL Maths for a non-mathematical degree is something one should be a little concerned about.
Reply 15
afoneleri , you get a 7,7,6?!
isn't that rly good for a medicine offer? considering that they are very competive?
