Duac Gel

Has anyone used this gel to treat mild-moderate acne? How have you found it? I've been using it for about 3 days now and my skin has become so dry...i want to stop using it for that reason but i have seen improvements so not too sure. perhaps i should check with my doc but just wondering what your experience with it has been like?!

didn't work on me... REALLY dried me out to the point of discomfort. I now use erythromycin gel and an oil free moisturiser

It did work on me and I didn't find it too drying. Maybe try moisturising in the morning and only using it at night. If not, ask your doc if u can try something else, not everything works for everyone.

i'm supposed to use it 3 times a day which makes using a moisturiser with it difficult. actually, not sure if you can use other products with it- i don't have the best of docs! how long did you use it for? did your skin remain ok once you stopped using it?

I think the idea of something like that is that it dries out your skin to eliminate acne - like drugs that kill all your cells in order to eliminate cancer. If you can live with it, do - it should work wonders.

Erythromycin gel, isn't that an antibiotic? Whenever I take erythromycin tablets I get a nasty churning feeling in my stomach for a week.

I've been use the once daily one for about 3 weeks now and its been fine. I only use it at nights, and moisturise in the morning so that my skin doesn't dry out too much.

Sorry to resurrect an old topic but I've started using Duac Once Daily gel tonight and I just have a couple of questions for anyone who's used it before.

I'm 26 and whilst I don't get tons of spots at the same time, I do always have various ones on my face and back, and some small ones across my chest. I also get some scarring once they've healed which can take months and months to fade. Also blackheads on my chin, cheeks, nose and forehead.

I've been told to use the gel at night, so I've washed my face tonight and put it on sparingly, would you recommend I moisturise over the top of it? My doctor did warn me about it causing dryness and told me to use a water-based moisturiser, which are the best water-based ones?

Also, it warns on the leaflet that it can bleach hair, I've got really dark hair so I'm worried about it bleaching my eyebrows now lol, should I be?

I used to use that but also got really dried out by it! It made me itchy so I stopped.

It was on my fingers and I forgot and wiped them on my old jeans, now they've gone light yellow.

Nothing works for my acne...........except this. I use it once a night before bed. Never dries out my skin and don't need to moisturise. Personally, I wouldn't moisturise over it as it might make it less effective.

I never find it bleaches my hair/eyebrows but it DOES bleach the bed covers/pillow cases. My pillow cases and sheets turned bright pink,so now I have to use old ones each night.

Good luck.

I used it on my back and it was OK but the skin on my face is way too sensitive. Go back to the docs and see if you can get any antibiotic lotions rather than gels or solutions. Mine works wonders for me

When I first started using it my skin became really dry and blotchy but I stuck with it and it really did get rid of my spots. Unfortunately I've come out with a few since going back to uni but I've left the tube at home!!!

So when I do come off it, my spots will reappear? So annoying, I'm 26 not 16 :frown:

I know, it's very annoying. But to answer your question, YES, Duac gel does work at getting rid of the acne but you need to keep using it. Once you stop, it just comes back again; it isn't a permanent cure.

i used to use it. worked a treat.

i use benzamycin or something at the moment. the best spot creams are the ones that you keep in the fridge.

my face is clear  love it

I use it, but it dries my skin out like anything. I've taken to using it every other day, and moisturising morning and evening, otherwise my skin is so flakey and gross.

The last 2 nights I've used it and my pillow hasn't bleached at all, it's still as red as before, but i also put a small amount across my chest as I get some spots there sometimes, and it's turned two of my pyjama tshirts pink from blue! I'm gonna wear my boyfriends old shabby tshirts to bed from now on :p:

And I haven't been moisturising after it cos an hour or so after I put it on my skin starts to grease up again so it's been ok so far.
