Anyone have an older sibling already at Oxbridge?

Just wondering how much it runs in families... My brother went up to Cambridge the year before I did, and although I came across a few others whose siblings had been there at some point, we appeared to be in a relatively unique position (with the exception of twins). So did anyone else have an older sibling already at Oxbridge when they applied?

yeah i did...but i didn't get in!!
Did you apply to the same uni? Or for the same course? Or are you completely different? What did your parents say?! Was it awkward?

My older brother is currently at Cambridge, and I have a place to study law starting 2006 at Cambridge. Was it more stressful than if my brother hadn't been? Yeah I think so. Not because of parental pressure or wanting to be "as good as my sibling" or anything like that, but rather because I think I'd seen just how much I'd like to be at Cambridge more than anything else.

i applied to the same uni, cambridge, but different colleges and different courses! i think it made it more stressful cos like it's already been said, everytime i went to visit i was like "aggh i wanna come here!!" but looking back, it was probably a good job i didn't get in cos i see how stressed my sis gets, and she's more "cambridge material" that i am i reckon...
yup! my brothers in the third year (of four) for engineering at Peterhouse, and Ive got an offer for Natsci at Tit Hall starting this October. Its all very exciting! It's cool that we'll overlap for a year too

I just feel sorry for my parents having to make 4 trips up to cambridge each term next year, cos all our stuff isnt gonna fit in just one car!

My brother's in his final year at queens' cam doing compsci, so when i come he goes. I'm also going to the same college, though I actually have valid reasons lol. He chose it because it was 'relatively small'. lol.

Not siblings, but I have 2 cousins who were both Nat Scis at Cambridge, and helped me out enormously (IMO) with general application and interview stuff. I've got an offer for PPE at the other place, so no hugely unfair advantage, but it did help me see that this might be somewhere I could be at.

My next-door neighbour:
sister at Ox; brother to follow; father went too.

I'm a 4th year at Peterhouse, and my younger brother has just got an offer, also at Peterhouse.

Both of us are mathmos.

I'd say it's fairly common actually -- I know quite a few people in that position.
I spoke to a girl applying to Oxford whose three older sisters went to Oxford, so did her dad, and her mum went to Cambridge. She told me at her school this was really really common.

How nice... but neither of my parents even went to university, let alone Oxbridge. We're special you see
Neither of my parents went to Uni either....my dad dropped out of school, but my mum did manage to make it till the end:redface: . No one else in the rest of my family (aunts, uncles, cousins etc) have been to uni either. We're special too

Your poor parents! Nah, I'm kidding... they must be proud.

Oh and chocolatecheese, good for you sweety! That said, chocolate and cheese are like my biggest enemies. Can't have dairy you see. Although if you shop around a bit the soya-substitutes aren't as bad as they sound. Lol.
