Exactly.

My sixth form frown upon part time work, but I couldn't manage without it.

If you don't get EMA it means your parents have enough cash for you to sponge off them.

I'm not sure if my sister can get EMA if she goes to college. My parents ask me but I didn't know.

It's means tested. If your parents have an income of below £30,000; then you can claim EMA.

u hav to get a job if ur parents are hard to sponge off tho ... but then again i do both
If your parents earn over £30k a year, you're not entitled to EMA because in theory you don't need it. If they earn less than that, your sister will get either £10, £20 or £30 a week depending on how much they earn, plus £500 in bonuses over the 2 years.

It's totally injust, since your parents could earn £29k and have one child to support, or £31k and 5 children to support. I know it would be hard to tailor the money around individual family circumstances, but it kind of escapes the whole point of it.
Could get your 'rents to give you your child benefit money, its not alot though. Also get a little job.
You get **** all because EMA sucks.

or if the main breadwinner in the household is self-employed.
I'm not saying this is always the case, but some self-employed people can make far more than £30k and their kids can still apply for EMA

Or you get both. i get EMA and I have a part time job. Got a healthy £4k in the bank.

That's because the taxing system on the Isle of Man is different.

Where do you get that theory from you moron?

Just because your parents could earn 30k+, they could have debts, or a lot of children to support. It doesn't mean they are financially stable to afford everything someone could possibly want.

Do you get EMA?
It is a daft and flawed system really....its the same for going to uni what with student loans and stuff. Even though my parents don't have a very low income they still can't really afford to support me when I go.
It has!
