AS Sociology coursework

I have to decide on a topic for my AS Sociology coursework. I wanted to do what I did at GCSE: the gender gap in the workplace but we're not allowed to do this. I can't really think of anything, although I liked the idea of doing gender, and for this I can only think of gender and education.

The choice of topic is yours, not your teacher's. They can offer advice (esepcially if they think it's too difficult etc.) but unless there's a very good reason (which they should discuss and explain) then you can do what you like - since all you're doing at AS is designing a piece of research I can't see any good reason (outside of difficulty) for not letting you choose your preferred topic.

Students often base AS work on what they did at GCSE, so this is hardly a problem.

Students frequently base their A2 coursework on the design they created at AS (and this may be one reason for your teacher's advice), but since AS is technically a stand-alone qualification this doesn't always apply.

Why have you been "banned" from this particular topic?

I don't know why we've been banned - I'll ask tomorrow. I really enjoyed doing it as well. I carried it out at GCSE, I don't see the problem if I do have to carry it out at A2 *shrugs* :smile:
