Nottinghams A Dump

anyone else agree nottnghams a overated dump

heres my reasons

ive been mugged twice now,im in my first year at nottingham(raleigh campus),my m8s been mugged.

people have been shot dead very near by student accomadation

the shoping is very ovverated, the broadmarsh shopping centre is just one big pound shop

the nightlife does not compare with newcastle for example.

i went to faces in hockley, they shut the night down cos hardly anyone urned up

same happened at works one night

ocean nightclub is a seedy club full of local scallies

theres no real reason why to stay in nottingham for a well payed job as london offers better

and this "most applied for uni" is rubbish, nottingham uni has big oversees applications, much higher than most over unis

if it was the most applied for "in britain uni" it would surely be leeds

thats just my opinion

girls on tuesday night mode are fit though

ps dont use that "thers crime every where youve just been unlucky" and "nottinghams a big city" rubbish

look up www.upmystreet.com and youll can compare nottingham to manc for crime and its more violent

plus nottinghams only got a population of 270 000

anyone else agree its a very overated violent place

thats y we have the VICTORIA CENTRE..that is a gd place - much bigger than broadmarsh, better shops

they hardly ever shut down the clubs during term time..u were just unlucky there..try going on a student night, term time??
yeah ocean is dodgy dont go there

no -nottingham's population is more around 400,000

some areas may be worse than others..but crime rates aren't bad. depends where u go and what time

ne way wat course u doin?

I used to think nottingham was a good place to study, however, after viewing some recent posts and watching crimebusters (or whatever its called) on my occasional friday nights in, it seems as though its not the same place as i had innitially thought.

N E ways it dont effect me coz i did not apply to nottingham, i applied to leicester (fairly close to notts) and after a recent UCAS visit day it seemed fairly good and is probably one of my top two choices.

Nope. I agree that it's wonderfullness has been overexaggerated slightly on this forum...but I still love living here.

Raleigh Park is not in a safe area of Nottingham, simple as that. It's close to where a lot of the second years live, and they have similar problems. I'm living in Broadgate Park (in Beeston rather than Lenton) and haven't had any problems with crime.

people have been shot dead very near by student accomadation

But that was nothing to do with the students. And it wasn't that close to main campus. And people get shot in other cities too...

the shoping is very ovverated, the broadmarsh shopping centre is just one big pound shop

As someone else has already said, Broadmarsh isn't great. The Victoria centre is good though, and there are so many independent shops in Nottingham that there's loads of places to go.

the nightlife does not compare with newcastle for example.

I wouldn't know about this, I haven't been out in Newcastle.

i went to faces in hockley, they shut the night down cos hardly anyone urned up

I don't like Faces. But in Nottingham it's not necessarily a problem - most of the clubs are close to the city centre. Hockley isn't that far away. If you don't want to walk you can always get a taxi, or if it's still early enough, a bus to another club.

same happened at works one night

Then walk around the corner to Jumping Jacks (they're in the same building...) or down the road to Media. Or across the road to Mode.

ocean nightclub is a seedy club full of local scallies

Agreed, but that only seems to be on Friday and Saturday nights. The student nights are, surprisingly, mostly students.

theres no real reason why to stay in nottingham for a well payed job as london offers better

You could say this about a lot of places! It's cheaper to live in Nottingham and I'd rather work here to be honest - I'd find London too big to have to travel around.

That's why Leeds is the most applied for UK uni this year...

Nottingham's been really popular in the past - it's definitely had the most oversubscribed courses in some subjects. I can dig up some stats if anyone wants them.

That would be me

ps dont use that "thers crime every where youve just been unlucky" and "nottinghams a big city" rubbish

But there is crime everywhere and Nottingham is a big city... I've had more problems with crime in Peterborough than I have in Nottingham - Peterborough's a lot smaller.

It's more like 400,000.

And only? Even 270,000 quite a lot of people...

anyone else agree its a very overated violent place

Nope. Some areas are violent, yes, but that's the same in all cities. As I said to start with, some people have very high expectations of the city, imagining it as some kind of perfect place. Obviously it's not, but that's not the fault of the city, just people's false perceptions of it.
when i went to open day, there were hawwwwwwwt girlzzzzzz
In regards to shopping, they have a DNA. Lovely shop. Never been to the Nottingham branch but Bristol has one and it's just lovely. So one bonus point to Nottingham methinks.

If you're referring to the original poster, no, he's in his first year here. If you're referring to me, no, I'm in my first year too. I have no idea about the others...
I did not get rejected either. I am considering Nottingham as my insurance offer.

For philosophy! My first choice is Warwick, although I want to visit both places before choosing. Durham is also in the running but the shared rooms and cateredness freak me out.

Wow. You are a woman far better travelled than me. But I am pleased that they are good shops too, because whenever I am sad or badly dressed, DNA can fix me.

I've done four philosophy modules this year - it's really interesting but hard :frown:

I haven't visit Warwick so I can't really compare...but the philosophy building for Notts (Trent building) is really really really nice. The Vice-Chancellor has his office in it.

On my open day I didn't get a chance to look around self-catered accommodation, so if you want to look round Broadgate on a Notts open day, let me know

Brilliant! I haven't applied to go to a Nottingham open day and I have a nasty feeling I have missed them, because they changed my offer to something much more attractive so I wasn't going to go but now I might be... But I will try to visit now. Where abouts is the self catered accomodation? I was having a look on the website but I got a bit confused.

From those figures, crime and burglary is quite a lot higher in Nottingham, but violent crime is slightly higher in Peterborough.
