Transfers to UCL/Imperial for Maths

Hello! I'm not sure if I'm in the right sub-forum, but mods, please relocate if needed.

I was wondering how difficult it would be to transfer from a mathematics course in King's to a mathematics course in UCL or Imperial? I've gotten accepted into Warwick for maths, and am forced to settle for second best due to certain circumstances I'm going through. However, I'm very reluctant to accept Kings' offers because, compared to Warwick's maths reputation, it's SUCH a long way off! But if there's any way I can transfer perhaps to Imperial or UCL after my first year (or perhaps during) provided, of course, that I've attained their minimum entry requirements, how difficult would you perceive the process could be?

Any advice from first hand experience would be VERY much appreciated. I guess the only reason I'd like to apply to either of the alternatives is because I'd never be able to forgive myself from turning down an exquisite offer from Warwick unless I apply to somewhere of a similar or equal reputation. I hope you guys understand.

Oh, and, what are the chances that I could apply to UCL or Imperial through adjustment or clearing (as unlikely as that may be) given that I'd achieved their minimum entry requirements? Thank you!

(And if this can be answered, what other factors, other than grades, would they be looking for when determining the potentiality of my application at these times? THANKS!)

You are right that maths at King's does not hold the same prestige as Warwick.

In fact, if you are to believe in research conducted by an academic as Manchester, the top unis for maths would be COWI

It is unfortunate you can't take up your place at Warwick but I suggest you speak directly to the admissions tutor at both Imperial and UCL to seek their advice.

Between the two, Imperial has the better reputation and area. Do check out the surroundings beforehand if you haven't done so. You will be stuck there for the next 3-4 years so make sure you like it.

There is nothing wrong with going to Kings

For there BSc Maths

You need either

AAAe with A in A2 Further Maths
A*AAa with A* in A2 Further Maths and a in AS Further Maths

These requirements are hard to get, meaning it is a prestigious course.

If you finish your 1st year at Kings, are you looking for 2nd year entry at UCL/Imperial? Wouldn't it be a waste of a year, if you got accept at UCL/Imperial and had to start the year again?

It may be better to take a year out, and maybe do an extra AS subject and work for a year to save up money.

I have taken a year out already (I'm finishing my gap year this year) and don't want to waste all the sweat, blood and tears I've put into good grades on a university that isn't really ranked high in maths. If the situation is such that I'll have to start over again for UCL and Imperial after doing a year of maths at King's, I wouldn't carry on with the decision. I'd stop there. However, I'd like to know this now before I make my a firm decision on which university to go to this year, so that I don't end up being stuck at King's, hopefully. If it turns out that my alternative choices are not possible (or very unlikely) to achieve, I'll do my VERY best to go to Warwick, but even that seems difficult for me at the moment. I have to exhaust all other possible options first, I guess.. :/
