How quickly can you put on weight?

I had a heavy weekend, I ate loads more than usual from Friday to Sunday, and drank a fair bit on saturday night.

Today i appear to be 3.5lbs heavier than I was on Thursday! How quickly can you put on weight? I reckon I probably ate 500-1000 more calories than normal on each of those days.. but could I really have put on 3.5lbs in three days? I'm baffled!Wont be doing that again, that's for sure!

I think that happens...due to inner body processes, like osmosis, i think that also happens when you eat chinese food, you gain lots of LBS in little time.... so I dont think its unheard of....wish I knew the science behind it!

water retention?? is a possiblity from all the dehydration - drink lots of h20 to rule that out, but remember it is only 3500 calories to put on an extra pound!!
well if you did eat your maximum estimated 1000 extra each day, assuming you normally eat at maintainance, then thats almost 1lb of fat youll have gained probably. The rest can be accounted for most likely by water retention and shizzle

no, they were both morning weights on an empty stomach...

its very unlikely that you were weighed under the same conditions. weight fluctuates all the time due to many factors. you probably have put on a little fat, but not 3.5 pounds.
3500 calories = 1 lb of fat. Fact.
The remaining weight MUST therefore be from fluids. You can quite easily put on a few pounds of weight from water/fluids etc. Just think of how heavy a full litre bottle of water is...

which part of my post do you disagree with?

I somehow doubt, as others have said, the topic poster put on that much fat...
You have to eat 3500 calories extra that your body doesn't need to gain a pound-not just 3500 full stop.

It's probably water retention from all the bad stuff you've had.Try and eat less salt and you should go back to your normal weight.

hmm, its not fat then but definitely weight! i was weighed under exactly the same conditions, even the same amount of drink etc.. it is very confusing.

there's 3500 calories in a pound of human fat <- I'm not a cannibal, just really curious

That would be a lot of over eating.

edit: nevermind, should read through all posts before replying...

it was a lot of over eating, i defnitely ate more than 3500 calories more than usual over the weekend... which means i should be about a pound heavier then, not 3.5!

I can put on 4lbs over one weekend, and then lose it over three days of eating normally. This morning I weighed 2lbs more than I did yesterday morning, damnit.

When I went on the Atkins diet I lost 7lbs over four days... but then I'm vegetarian, so basically I was just eating lettuce and vegetables :p:

if your metabolism decided to shut down, you didn't breathe and were completely immobilised, maybe its fat.

its not fat. most of it.
