Brace/ retainer/ teeth moving back

ey up. :hello:
Basically I had a brace for two and a half years and had it off last October, and a wire stuck at the back of my bottom teeth to stop them moving and on top of that a retainer. The wire kept breaking and so i got an emergency appointment (Which wasn't until a week later-so much for emergency!) and they ended up taking it off ans it was just some dude covering for my normal ortho guy and since then, one of my teeth has been moving back-I've been wearing my retainer all the time-but as this was formed over the wire thing, there is now a big gap at the back for the tooth to move into. Has anybody else had this? What did your orthodontist say about it?? I have my next appointment on the 20th, and i am thinking of asking them to put a brace back on. I hate the thought that I went through so much pain for so long for it just to have it turn out like it has. (I'm a total perfectionist-much to my Graphic teacher's despair as i rip up so many sheets whilest doing coursework!) Do you think they would do this for me? Has anybody had anything redone before??
So yeah, apart from the questions, this was just a bit of a rant. I am so close to screaming and crying about it. If it's not changed it really will annoy me for so long. :vmad: It's so frustrating.

I would enquire about this PILLOCK who covered your usual consultant.... maybe you could sue him?! just maybe?!
I've had private orthodontic treatment and having had 'train tracks' for 3 years, I've had wire put behind my teeth, like you. However, my ortho said that the wire is permanent and that taking it off will definitely cause all the teeth to move back.

All you can do is ask to have the wire put back on and avoid chewing gum, boiled sweets, hard fruits like apple, and fizzy drinks, which will break and rot the wire. If you're more disciplined then it won't break - I never broke my train tracks, retainer or wire in all the time I've had it.

I know what you mean, my treatment lasted exactly six months and I had to have upper train tracks, my teeth where stretched horizontally so they could all fit in and now they are straight, I also got away with eating crap that could damage them..... with private ortho treatment, you are paying so you should demand your moneys worth and get it corrected.

I had my brace for 3 years, and still have a wire across the back of my front teeth. At first there were a few of problems, they had to re-fit it a couple of times as it kept detaching itself. Whenever there was a problem they were always willing to have a look, they had spent so much time on my teeth that they didn't want their good work to be undone. Like you said, it would be crazy to ignore your problem after it took so long to get your teeth sorted... so just tell them you're unhappy with it and I'm sure they'll be able to put it right

My ortho didn't say anything when i had it on, i didn't know what they were doing with my teeth so it wasn't until later that day i even saw it, but i presume that means mine would be permanent too. I can't believe it was taken off. ARGhhh!

Thankyou for all your replys, they have calmed me down a little. I guess i'll just have to sit and wait until the 20th. Eeks!

Oh, and LMAO! at MBBS!

I wore a brace for a year, got my bottom teeth all straight, and then I was stupid and didn't bother wearing my retainer so now they've moved back and it doesn't fit! So I went through all that pain and annoyance for nothing! :frown:

I had braces on the top and bottom for just under a year i think, and I assumed that when they were taken off that'd be it pretty much, although poss having to wear a retainer for a bit. But my dentist (my normal dentist did mine, bcos the orthodontist didn't think it was serious enough!!) took them off then told me I'd have to wear top and bottom retainers at night for the REST OF MY LIFE. I was like, oh great! Hmph. I always thought the point of braces was that the results were permanent... Anyway, I asked about a wire behind but he didn't want to do it (can't remember why now... hm!) But I always wear my retainers because as has been said, I couldn't bear to have gone through all that annoyance just for my teeth to go back to being wonky! I sympathise, just make sure YOU'RE completely satisfied, because in the end you have to live with your teeth and will have them (hopefully, lol) for the rest of your life. Good luck
I had the same thing, although my teeth aren't as bad as they were, but it annoys me in photos when I can see they're not straight!!
I'm hoping once I'm older I'll be able to pay for private treatment to have it put right.

they won't put a brace back on because you want it back on.. they will only put it back on if they think there is reason to.

also, i hate to say this, but i have never had the problem of my teeth moving.. i mean, i had my brace on for 7 months (the doctor said 2 to 3 years but my teeth moved incredibly fast.) and when it was taken off, my teeth did move a little bit.. but not much. i then wore my retainers until they literally fell apart after about 6 months.. aaand so far, my teeth have stayed put. whey. so thankfully, all the pain and annoyance was worth it for me.

though i still hate my teeth... ppth.

Why the hell did that consultant take the wire retainer off??????? I've got one, and they're meant to stay there a minimum of 5 years, if not the rest of your life! SUE SUE SUE!!
