well, they'll prolly do a pregnancy test and will take blood pressure. They'll prolly recommend you use a barrier method in conjunction with the pill. They may ask if you smoke.. have heavy periods... get cramps etc.

Why are you scared? Remember doctors get people coming in to talk about contraception every day! It's no big deal. You're probably bound to experience far more embarrassing health problems in the future. How are you going to talk to your dr about those if you're scared of talking about contraception?
It's not scary at all, honest!

Also remember that the doctor will probably be hearing about far more embarassing stuff from other people. Talking about contraception will probably the most pleasent health discussion of his day .

Also, at first they will only give you 3 months' worth and you go back and they check that it was ok for you. After that they will start giving you 6 months' worth. Everytime you go back to get your prescription again they will check your blood pressure and ask if you've experienced any probs. Nothing major.
They will give you a load of leaflets and stuff too. How the pill works can be a little confusing at first, so make sure you listen to the advice of your dr properly and read through the stuff several times before you start taking it.

i just talked with the gp,she was nice, asked me a few questions, took my bp,asked if i was allergic to anything and adviced me on how to use, when to start etc and i was off.when your pack finishes, you go back ask for some more, they check your bp,ask how you are,and they give you your next pack, just like that.simple
They're usually pretty friendly  It'll jusy be a little chat, could be cos of fmaily history or other cirumstances, the contraceptive you want might not be suitable, but generally they will discuss any options etc

Do you need to start taking it at a specific time of the month?
Reply 12
Well I remember when I started I had to take the first pill on the first day of my period, but I dunno if that's specific to that exact pill (microgynon 30). Your doctor will tell you what to do.

To be protected straight away you need to start taking it on the first day of your period. If you start it at any other time you'll need to use another method of contraception as well for 7 days.

my doctor didn't do anything like that (take blood pressure).. he just, well, gave me the prescription and i toddled on home.
btw, why would they need to take a pregnancy test? incase you are pregnant? mm..then why would you be going on the pill...? noobs.

also, READ THE LEAFLET THAT COMES WITH THE PILLS - it will answer all your questions.

My doctor took my blood pressure, asked a few family health questions and basically discussed when to take it, possible side effects etc with me. Then i had to go back 3 months later for a check-up where she took my blood pressure again and just asked if i'd had any problems.

Don't worry about it. They'll be very willing to help and the whole procedure is pretty simple.
