just wondering, how many hours would you say you'd have to work if you did law at oxbridge and how difficult is it in relation to other subjects
you would most certainly have to work 2 more hours.

EDIT: sorry, but stupid qu=stupid answer. It will obviously vary from person to person, and other courses like medicine are supposed to be just as intensive.

The lawyers at my college were in the library all the time in the first term of the first year, but that didn't last very long. As far as Cambridge workloads go it's probably one of the heaviest, but it's not that bad. You choose how much you want to work, of course, so that will vary a lot between people, as with any subject.

but on the other hand, they would have expected you to know latin and greek inside out, regardless of your degree subject
Well, in the 15th century, that would have been your degree subject. I didn't think they taught anything other than philosophy, theology and classics, all together, at that time?

What is the worst thing about life at oxford/cambridge for current students?
Stress. I have to say I disagree about the "can always do more as far as tutors are concerned". I felt I could have done a lot more this term, yet my tutors said they were very happy and wanted to make sure I was taking plenty of time to relax this holiday, as I'm ill at the moment. However I am constantly stressed, 90% because of extra-curricular things though.

The steaming piles of other people's self-aggrandising bullsh** that must be circumnavigated every so often...

While the former is true, I've never known of anyone to be banned for the latter. p2p has copyright issues, so they have to be harsh. Porn nobody really cares about.

That's easy - hands down, the most annoying thing is hastily racing around to pack and store my stuff at the end of every term. I'm sure if you didn't get out by noon sharp they'd bang garbage can lids together outside your door.

Not really, I've never been banned for either. But lots of people do both, and lots of people I know have been banned for p2p filesharing, but never for porn.

How do they monitor/prevent p2p use? does the college monitor specific programs running from your pc (that use the intaweb)? if so, perhaps there are specific p2p programs (i.e. soulseek) that are not blocked.

It is slightly misleading. Even the holidays are basically glorified revision periods. I guess it depends on your subject and how seriously you take your work, though.

That is strongly optional though. Some people do no vac work at all, others loads. Depends how important your college sees collections, and how much work you want to do.
