I do BSc geography this year. I swapped to it from BA last year. It's pretty crap in terms of contact time with the lecturers and other staff. Last year I had an average of 5 hours of lectures a week and an hour of tutorial every fortnight. Yes the staff are there, but their favourite phrase seems to be "this is an introduction, now go and do some reading". And more often than not there are 80-100 people trying to get two or three copies of a book thats vital. Not the best organisation.

The number of staff in the department is also decreasing. A couple left at the end of last year and theres at least two more going this year (albeit with one new lecturer as well). This is part of the university trying to save money.

The course itself though is really interesting as long as you can get on and work independently. First year modules are things like "Introduction to rivers", "Social and Cultural Geography", "Biogeograpy" and a few others. I think theres a list on the geography website which is www.ex.ac.uk/geography.

Overall the course is alright and the city itself is brilliant. Yes it's small, but that just makes everything more accessible!!

Hope that helps a bit!!
