Try and be more aware when you are working the gear stick; remember 3rd and 4th gears are on the "straight line" of the gear lever; hence you don't need to add any pressure to the left or right when changing gear just slip it gently forward for 3rd and gentle backward for fourth keeping it in a straight line..
As for 2nd gear, remember to apply slight pressure to the left and bring it down.. You will be fine with time I guess

I used to this in my instruectors Corsa B, when he changed to a Clio the first thing he said to me is "I have a feeling you're going to like this car a lot better". I never once changed into the wrong gear in that.

I loved that Clio.

I have a clio and I dont think I have changed into the wrong gear before; I did it in my corsa a bit though...

..but there is the odd period when I mistakenly slip it into 3rd and try to move off but then I Immediately put it into first when I notice the lack of torque

I think the gates on the clio are wider which means you have to apply a little more preasure to get into gear, the Corsa B's problem is they were too close which meant any unwanted preasure you would go into the wrong gear.

I did it a lot changing from 3rd to 4th but ended up in second.
rite well here goes.i used 2 grab the handbrake wen i 1st took off instead of goin in2 2nd gear!!BIG mistake so urs is easy.move the gear a lil i always find goin from 2nd to 3rd the hardest and i passed my test like.rite so ur prblem is cummin dwn gears or missin 3rd gear?
im confused.if its missin third it just takes time and as 4 goin dwn gears u can block change from 4th 2 2nd aslong as uve slowed dwn enuff.just keep thinkin up dwn up dwn and ull b fine!

Any chance of that translated to english?
You would only get a minor if you accidently went into 4th instead of 2nd during the test right?

ahhh!!! that explains why I usually need more pressure for 2nd gear in my clio.. hmmm; interesting!
I was always told to push the gear stick with the palm of my hand and to not grip it at all, dont know if that helps at all. Iv always managed to put it in the gear i meant to, but whether that was the correct gear or not ....

It depends on the circumstances I think, that would be ususaly less dangerious than going into 2nd instead 4th as that would act as a break but with no break lights.

Yes, I was told that too!

But once I was changing into 2nd and my hand slipped and ended up on my instructor's knee :s:

I've only ever once mis-changed, and that was from 5th to 1st approaching a roundabout - I just totally missed 3rd! Luckily, I realised what I'd done and brought the clutch up really slowly (without really thinking...)

As was said earlier, the better way to change gear is to use the palm of your hand, and push the stick, rather than try and pull it.

Sit on your drive, engine off. Make car noises and practice your gear changes, with your eyes closed

I have trouble with this too sometimes, only in my mum and dad's car though, not so much with my instructor's. Had a fun experience on a duel carriageway once when I was trying to go from 4th to 5th and just kept ending up back in 3rd ( it happened about 5 times in a row) ...the car was not happy about this. In the end I just had to put the clutch down whilst my mum put it into 5th
I had a driving lesson 2day and turned into a road in 5th somehow! But it was my instructors fault coz he sed it was in the rite gear
