Bristol or Durham?

Bristol or Durham?

Sorry for adding another thread about which university is better, but I am very unsure between these two. I was leaning towards Bristol, however, Durham seems the more respected is what I've been told by various people in my college - although I do question this as Bristol are asking AAA, whilst Durham want AAB.

The last thing I want is to unknowingly put myself in a more difficult position when finding a job (in investment banking, for example) because I went to a less respected university . So, in your opinion, which would be the better option as my first choice.

Your opinions are much appreciated, Thank You.

Bristol. I'm pretty sure every 'wisehead' of TSR when it comes to Economics (and IB/the City) would agree.
I thought that in the times ranking, Dueham scored 1 place higher than Bristol?
Or is the Times not exactly a reliable source? :worried:

If you start going by the Times table as if it was almighty and unquestionable, you've been had. And been had real bad.

i think that for economics in particular bristol's more respected...

Exactly how respected is bristol? More than warwick? What about Manchester, seeing as it has a good international reputation?

I want to know as I hold 2 offers from bristol.

I'm in the same sort of situation...

But I heard (on T2U) that in Durhams 2007 entry prospectus Economics now has typical entry requirement AAA... going up in the world maybe?

AAA with A grade mathematics?

And a better judge is IB points... since they allow further division.

Well, since I am at Bristol, i'd say Bristol!
Have you heard of our famous 'Investment Banking Evening'?
PM me if you have any questions regarding course content for Econ.

PS: I know plenty of people from Bristol with 1)graduate job offers from IB, 2)Internship offers and 3)spring programme offers.

:ditto:

Durham is so overrated it is untrue. I think because they are amazing at a very popular course like Law, everyone thinks the Uni as a whole is amazing, which just isn't true. I think how old Durham is also makes people think it is a strong Uni, once again... not true!

I got rejected from Durham due to being predicted a B in Mathematics. How annoying is that? Sure, I understand the logic behind it if those were the requirements now but they are not. All those that I know who are predicted AAB got rejected from Durham, whilst those predicted AAA got accepted.

I do not understand why they say AAB if they want AAA. Just tell me the truth in your prospectus, I will get over it, just don't take up space on my damned UCAS form you silly snail droppings.

P.S. I am aware that they offer AAB, but from those I know, Durham only offer AAB to those that are predicted AAA. To those that are predicted AAB, they offer... well... nothing.

I have heard it can depend on which college you applied to? In my day Durham offered ABB for economics. Also as far as I am aware you do not even need maths.

Yes at present you do not, according to the prospectus, but it is certainly an advantage to have Mathematics. I applied to University College, but the department rejected my application before it even went to the College.

I'm trying to work out why I should be impressed? You would find all the same names at many different unis for a 'fair'. Moreover, while I'm sure it isn't just one evening of recruiting that is done, one evening is piddles... and an evening with just 'exhibition stands' is weak...

along with the 10 or so presentations.

Anyway, I just mentioned it to show that many IB's visit Bristol.
