I'll be starting on the 2nd level Biology this year. I keep hearing
about First Class. What is it? Is it included in a course (fee) or do
you have to order it seperately?

    Thanks

It is a free, newsreader/browser/mail package free to students, that
runs from the OUs own Firstclass Servers.

Its a conferencing system, which allows you to meet other
    students online.

Its great for getting support from & socialising with other students, in
a way which you can't otherwise do on a correspondence course.

    And yes it is free.

It's a 'conferencing' system used by OU students. It is a little bit
like using usenet, but the servers can only be accessed by OU students,
staff and tutors. If you haven't been sent a copy on CDRom by the OU, it
can be downloaded from www.fcguru.org.uk You will need your Open
University computing user ID and password which should have been sent to
you. If you haven't got it, then contact the computing department at the
OU (sorry, I don't have the number to hand, but it should be in your
student handbook somewhere) and they will send you one. Alternatively,
it can be accessed via the web at www.open.ac.uk/students, but again you
need your ID and password from the OU.

I would highly recommend using it, because it is a way to keep in touch
with other students throughout the year. There are firstclass
conferences for a large majority of OU courses, and there are also lots
    of social conferences.

Feel free to email me (remove the spamblock) if you have any other
questions, and I'll do my best to help.
