she claims she always has a heavy flow. she doesnt use tampons cos shes a muslim, and so results into using 2 pads at a time
I couldn't not shower when on my period.... it's even more improtant to stay clean when you're on.

That's not a muslim thing. Your friend has low hygiene standards. Or that she falsly always assumed that she shouldn't shower when she's on her period. Definitely not a religion thing.

Same goes for tampons. It's not a religion thing. Well, it is if she's worried about breaking her hymen, but not strictly tampons themselves.

isnt tampons not allowed in islam?, im pretty sure when i go to muslim countries they dont even sell them (maybe in dubai), but im sure a girl who isnt married isnt allowed tampons!? thats what all my muslim friends said, none of them wear tampons!

any muslims who wear tampons on here?, and do your family and friends know?, or do u use it in secret?
It's a cultural thing. My mum said she wasn't allowed to cook when she was on her period because she wasn't 'clean' and was told not to shower
I shower more because, well, if I didn't....eurgh! You feel so much better after having a long shower!
oh and I was worried about asking my mum if I could use tampons, but it's perfectly fine, it's not to do with religion. Especially in school, because my periods are so heavy, they are a lifesaver! Again, I think it's culture. Most of the females in my family use pads (just what I've seen in the bathroom) but it might be preference.
I've seen always pads on sale in dubai and saudi but not tampons. maybe they're kept somewhere more discreet? Although I did see a durex stand at the front of a shop in dubai, maybe so people would feel too awkward to buy any...

Yes the only difference is as soon as I step out the shower I have just about a 2 minute window to dry myself off and get some clothes on before it er... you know, starts again. :awesome:

This made me laugh! It's so true! Blokes seriously don't know how easy it is for them not having to deal with this stuff.

So true but then again at least we don't have to deal with wild boners in public places. Or at least most of us, anyway.

:lolwut:
But a period lasts about four-five days...

I would take the period time limit over that anyday. Atleast ours can be looked at as a skill since we clearly work well under pressure  it's much more impressive than being able to hide an awkward boner...
Oh dear

How disgusting.

I don't think any religion promotes bad hygiene. Sounds like culture, but tbh, your periods shouldn't get in the way of everyday life.

When I'm on my periods, I still shower. Usually it's once a day, but when I'm on or it's summer or both, I'd shower twice a day.

It makes no sense. She'd be seen as dirty because she's on her period, but not showering would make her even more dirty

Absolutely disgusting.
Of course you shower!! No muslim wouldn't! It's probably something in her family not in her religion. I'm a muslim and shower everyday. Hygeine is part of our religion.
Since dealing with infections generally isn't the best of hobbies, yeah, showering on your period is probably a good idea. If anything you should wash more while on it, because of obvious reasons. I guess your friend has just been exposed to seriously crappy advice, and just politely mention what I've said. She's probably super embarassed either way. Not washing while on your period is super unhygenic, and any competent nurse or specialist would tell you the same.

Well, I'm a muslim and it doesn't have anything with religion. I'm really surprised that there are girls who don't shower while having their period. I agree with you that it makes me calm and relax my muscles.
