This is a werid problem.

This is quite embarrassing so thats why i am posting anon.

Well anyway, i have slightly grown a fear of dust mites. I know they are everywere. But the thing that scares me the most they are physically in any mattress, waiting to fest on dead skin =\ When i go to lie down on my bed. Have you ever heard that tick - tock or something moving noise that comes from the pillow thats the gross little bugs moving! I really want to sleep but i am really scared! What should i do? I know what some people are going to say i am a freak or maybe i am insane! But really i need help to overcome this fear that i have.

Sorry but it has to be said, but that tick tock is the clock on your bedside table.

OK, on a more serious note, i think you need to discuss this with your close friends and family. You took the first step which was to post on here, but sometimes you have to sideline your fears of embarassment and seek advice from your friends...everyone has a 'weird' problem (lets not even go into with what is weird, it does not exist, just different!) and i am sure your closest friends and family will try and help you and not laugh at you or call you names.

If you don't want to talk to them, perhaps go and talk to your Quack (doctor) or see a psychiatist...i know that seeking professional advice is held by society in general as a taboo topic or negatively looked upon if you see what you mean, BUT it could help you. Besides lack of sleep is not a good thing!

I think you need to talk about it, perhaps even have a hypothetical conversation with a scientist and ask about these bugs, i mean i am no expert but if they feed on dead skin then they are of no harm to you? I also think they are microscopic, there is no way you would hear them.

I hope this kinda helps, i think you actually need to talk to someone (i'm not saying you are mental or anything, i just think it would be good for you to get it off your chest!).

It's called the pulsing of the blood in your ears I would have though. Certianly not microscopic dust mites.

if it is a genuine irrational an overbearing fear you need to go and seek specialist help - see your gp and they should be able to refer you on.

I kind of have sympathy with you. It is pretty gross to think you are lying in bed with millions of little mites but at the end of the day they do you no harm. Now if there was a big spider in your bed, then you should be worried

The noises are NOT dust mites.

Sleep tight don't let the bed bugs bite . (Sorry couldn't resist).

Get some allergy covers for your mattress and your pillows. I have them cos i'm allergic to the buggers..might calm your nerves...but it is rather disturbing the fact ur that worried bout them so you might want to go to the doctor too...
It also , if you lie on your side, might be your eyelashes flicking against the pillow...
Allergy sheets are good, but you can get the special hypoallgergenic (sp?) pillows that are foam, not feathers. It's good tht theyre there tho, otherwise there'd be lots of bits of skin everywhere which is even more gross!

Indeed! But really wouldn't recommend getting yourself special sheets/pillows...that's giving in to the fear, which is how little irrational thoughts like this can become more obsessive in the long run. Try reassuring yourself that your fears aren't rational- that everyone sleeps in beds with mites, they do no one any harm (unless they're allergic obviously!). If you really can't get rid of your fears by yourself, then you should see someone- better not to let things like this build up to serious phobias or obsessions. If it's making you lose sleep then a doctor will take it seriously, they won't treat you like you're crazy- phobias are very common, and the dr might be able to refer you for some cognitive therapy to help you rationalise your thoughts and reduce your fears.
