Red 'power dress' or formal grey skirt suit for interview at Olswang (law firm)?

I have an interview on Tuesday for an 'internal consultant' role at Olswang but i don't know what to wear!!

The risky option is a really nice dark red formal work dress with black heels. It's glamorous but memorable.

Then there's the safe cream blouse and grey skirt suit option.

I don't know what people at Olswang wear. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Red dress screams 'loose woman'. Wear that one accordingly.
Go safe. Once you get the job you can be as glamorous as you like.

Play safe - grey. Law firms often have an internal dress code (I've never known this to include red).

The law is a very conservative profession. Go with grey, mos def.
If you're male, both are poor choices.

Assuming you're not, I echo the thoughts of people so far in that grey if the safer option.

[I really don't want this to be a wind-up, even though I think it is--a graduate as 'internal consultant'?--because:]

Finally, someone asking the important questions! Not one of those boring "Aww... Are my grades good enough?" or "Argh... Am I good enough for the MC?" or "Help me, help me--how do I answer these questions on the application form". A real question: fashion!

Olswang are a TMT (technology, media, telecommunications) firm: they're used to fashionistas. If you don't dress up, baby, you're not ready for Olswang! Plus, I've never said "no" to a woman in a red dress and black hells (although I'd say "yes!" a lot faster if it was a black dress and red heels).

Don't listen to the doubters: stand out from the crowd.

Hi here's a video shot at Olswang's offices in Holborn. Good luck in your interview

A woman in 'black hells'? I'd steer clear, personally.

I'm not so sure, based on this: http://www.olswang.com/people/?peopleGroupName=A the majority appear to wear normal office clothing. General guide for interviews is if unsure, it is always better to play it safe. I'd much rather be remembered for my interview performance than for wearing a pink velvet suit.

Sure, play it safe if you want to remain a nobody: but all the best lawyers have crazy tics (eg. Neel Sachdev with his taste for Saville Row suits and Jimmy Choos (http://www.legalweek.com/legal-week/blog-post/1531514/a-career-lawyer-hype-vs-reality), or Ira Schacter and his playboy bunny (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2052883/Ira-Schacter-defends-refusal-pay-daughters-hearing-aids--buying-215-000-engagement-ring.html), or John Altorelli and his Russian spy (http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/anna_the_spy_who_loved_me_N7pyj52PHEFY50kKknJyLO)).

There are good lawyers, then there are great lawyers--I know which ones I remember.

The OP did say it was a dark red dress though. There's a world of difference between a dark red dress with a modest hem and neckline and the sort sported by the "woman in the red dress" in The Matrix. I'm inclined to think that the former would be ok in most office environments but for an interview I'd play it safe with the grey skirt and then if you get the job you can gauge what people wear at the firm and dress accordingly.

I'm sceptical they turned up to their interviews with such flamboyant style.

If she was interviewing to head the law firm this that might be fine - At entry level you're probably better off not being remembered for an eye-meltingly bright dress.

Ten years ago you'd see Olswang trainees at law fairs dressed in combat trousers when everyone else was in suits. Not any more though.

Dressing like a wanton to try and impress an interview panel...

lets hope they aren't all female.

I hope that this is true. They should bring it back. At least they'd stand out that way.

Don't worry, in my experience they very, very rarely are (obviously not counting HR, which very, very rarely are not).
Always go for blood red.
