Myalgic encephalomyelitis. Its more commonly known as chronic fatigue syndrome.

..Chronic fatigue syndrome, or CFS, is a debilitating disorder characterized by profound tiredness or fatigue. Patients with CFS may become exhausted with only light physical exertion. They often must function at a level of activity substantially lower than their capacity prior to the onset of illness. In addition to these key defining characteristics, patients generally report various nonspecific symptoms, including weakness, muscle aches and pains, excessive sleep, malaise, fever, sore throat, tender lymph nodes, impaired memory and/or mental concentration, insomnia, and depression. CFS can persist for years. ..

i have ME too!

welcome to the thread where we can rant about being sleepy!
Or not as the case may be. When i first got it i slept all the time but years later and i have a complete lack of the hormone melatonin and so yay for sleep disorders.

For people who don't have experience of it, sufferers are affected on a huge range. For the vast majority it interferes with social life and makes full time work or college difficult, but in its severe form it can mean total bed rest or a coma-like state for months or even years.

The cognitive side can be equally as bad as the physical as it is a neurological condition, so there's the fun of not being able to think/concentrate/process visual or aural information and a whole wealth of other goodies.

Hope everyones having as good a day as possible
I have it too- but am feeling loads better now. They'll have a cure for it within a year though:biggrin: Feel free to PM me. xxxxxx

I've had it a long time, at the moment severely, and have lots of extra goodies because of the stress on my body: lack of hormones, hypoglycaemia, seizures, episodes of complete paralysis, extreme new allergies yada yada yada.. Gah i sound like a hypochondriac. Wonderful illness isn't it?

Hey - i've had glandular fever since november and went to the doctor yesterday as i can still barely do anything and he said it's chronic fatigue syndrome :frown: and has referred me to a cfs clinic at my local hospital. Has anyone ever been to one of these clinics b4? He also said I will get better it just takes a long time, *sigh* i'm so bored!! Any1 got any tips on how to get rid of it?

xx
rest up and don't aggravate your symptoms. that's about the best you can do to help aid your recovery. pace yourself, find a level of activity you can do every day day in day out without getting worse from it. as your health changes one way or the other, adjust that baseline so your body is never under unneccessary stress. Other than that it's just a waiting game. I know that just sounds frustrating, but you will become a more patient person, i swear.. :indiff: :trytofly:
I just noticed you're from Bristol.. The specialist team at Frenchay are probably the best in the country; you're lucky in that respect.

I'm always tired and always have a headache. Do I have ME?
Theres a gazillion conditions that make you feel tired, most of them a lot less serious and actually treatable. Go to your doc and get checked for anaemia, thyroid, etc. The marker symtom of ME is not tiredness, it's post-exertional exhaustion. And i mean exhaustion like having been hit by a bus after running the marathon.. There's no point trying to second guess what illnesses you may/may not have, tis your doctors job to figure that one out...so go see yer GP.
