ahh but I believe *all* people are inherently good
I'll bring up the classic example of Hitler then.
Was he inherently good?

yes - circumstances and experience change us - sometimes that can make us do things which we regret or which appear evil but I don't believe that people *try* to be evil (with the possible exception of Mr White ) I think it's simply a case of circumstance overtaking our judgement and our desires becoming distorterd out of proportion.

Adults that believe in Santa must have rather disappointing Christmas Mornings. I especially feel for their children.

So there is an exception!!!

do you think "evil" is an exploitation of man's natural desire to constantly better himself?

I think even he is a good person - he's just one of the few people who try to be evil (which hasn't worked because everyone knows he's a sweetheart )

A reasonable man betters himself to fit his surroundings.
An unreasonable man betters his surroundings to fit himself.

So being reasonable is somehow evil?

no I think it's a label we use for actions and beliefs we don't understand and can't empathise with

no no no, not at all, you missed the drift of my question! I meant that man has a natural desire to make himself better, and wondered if this is the basis for 'evil'...jealousy, greed, betrayal etc?

But most people try to improve themselves for themselves. I do not see how it is evil to have the desire to make yourself better.
