i askd y she was a member of 1 of th socs, and she sed it was cos of her religion. and i think my reply was " ohryt, didnt kno u wer......." <- insert religion here! but i dnt think that tht was disrespectful or ignorant. i then askd a question about this particular religion out of interest, and istead of receivin an answer i was now classed as racist.....?!?! huh!!!!????

I personally think that your friend is an idiot and that you are better off without them, because as far as i can see, you were not racist in the slightest and it seems your friend may just be crying out for a bit of attention off of people.

Some people have a habbit of branding people racists. Back in secondary school there were black people who considered any criticism of their personality racist. One used to accuse teachers of being racists even though she want basically a pain in the ass. Ridiculous... it sounds like a childish issue. I personally think you should ignore it, she'll get bored of spouting off lies, as she doesn't actually have a specific quotes from the conversation to represent you are remotely racist. If any people she has been telling about this come to you and make stupid accusations... just ask why they are under that impression and put them straight. I know it is frustrating, but no one with any intelligence would believe it. It is ironic how the terms racism has been created to help people who suffer it, but some chose to use it to label unjustly and thus create prejudice themselves.

Thanks, i think that that is an excellent point. I think that people are to quick to brand ppl as racist, and that if she really regarded me as a friend she would know that i would never deliberately hurt her feelings.
You are being rather vague with regardings to the specific comment... how can you expect help when we don't know if what you said sounded racist, or could have been interpreted that way? You sound very quick to state she was wrong and jumped to conclusions, but was it reasonable for her to do that? We'll let you know if you tell us what you said... O.o'

He has stated that he was asking her about her religion and she took it personally. I don't see how this is being racist?
I think you need to stop being friends with her - sounds pretty horrible girl going around telling everyone that you are a racist. That's disgraceful, she can hardly be good friend material. When anything regards race issues, you do have to be (incredibly) clear about what you mean, say, connatations and the alike, as anything open to potential misinterpretation can be spun into something you did not mean and certainly do not want to mean...there was a thread i posted on here a month ago or so regarding crime in Nottingham and as soon as i mentioned one word i was labelled as being racist...people can be (sadly) rather quick to attack you.
Vague...

I think it probably is the fault of the person being too quick to judge... but I would still like to make a decision based upon the specific comment. Surely that is logical?

as the major religions aren't necessarily race specific, is it even racist? [ie. ones that you may say belong to certain ethnic groups, people of other ethnicity can still join]

i'm probably completely wrong. but i'm sure the word isn't racist...
i feel that if this girl was racist she wudnt b m8s wi th girl in the first place.th girl who took it the wrong way is clearly judgemental and is 2 easily offended and should lighten up BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!th girl asked a simple question askin about her religion she shuldve jus answered n sed that offends me rather thn bein 2faced and putin it up here. the girl who is bi*ching about th girl posing a question should learn MORALS herself n should think twice before makin accusations which cudve been avoided by takin th girl to one side n askin her wot she meant rather thn bein 2 faced!!!!! ur an angry linzi
