i won't recommend using too many outside sources - no more than a couple of sentences from each - yes you're supposed to but its very difficult to pick up marks from places other than the given info... (especially true for diagrams) and with the strict word limit you can't waste words!

I'd put down references but wouldn't use them too much, stick to cutting down the relevant info in the booklet to 1000 words - that's what i did and (not bragging honestly!) got full marks...

you have a strict 2 week period of time to do the whole open book paper, therefore giving you a head start with the questions and articles i dont think would be allowed...

just get yourself some checklists, you can get one from the SAC website, and work your way through it logically when you get it. if you put the time and effort into it you should be fine. and dont leave it to the last minute.

saying that, i havent got mine yet, and im not looking forward to it. i was hoping it would be on something slightly interesting (obv not that interesting, its chem afterall ) and that way i may have actually enjoyed it a bit, but nevermind.

nothing like a challenge

Then why don't you ask your uncle what the questions are if you're so desperate, or maybe you could wait till you get given it along with the rest of your class

there is around a 2-month time period in which your teachers decide when they want to give the paper to you. they will already have the papers no doubt. but everyone has the same amount of time so getting it earlier or later doesnt really matter.

and yes the paper is hard by the sounds of it. well its got to be difficult to find info on tyres! lol. oh well, will find out on tuesday.

and is it just me, but ever since i found out about the topic, ive been seeing that damn goodyear tyre company advert the majority of time i watch tv! lol. nothing like rubbing it in the wounds that its going to be dull.

well there are many advices pages online if you look in google, but on the official salters advanced chem (SAC) site, then there is a checkist written by them, basically saying "have you covered all the points" etc etc...

the website is part of york uni, so its something like york.ac.uk, but i dont know the exact address. try googling "SAC chem open book paper 2006 checklist" or something.

edit: found it for you.

go to: http://www.york.ac.uk/org/seg/salters/chemistry/

and go to "assessment" on the side, then "open book". then that page is all about the exam, at the bottom it has some links, and there is also a hyperlink from "checklist" in blue near the bottom. click on it and voila
