Hello

To get you one of the best definitions around I thought I'd go to the Online Oxford English DIctionary (www.oed.com). To germinate is defined as "to sprout, put forth shoots, begin to vegetate". Hope that helps. I know its not a very long definition or anything but thats your question answered.

When a seed begins to grow, it is germinating.

Hence germination can be related to the process of reproduction in botanic species.

Hope this helps!
