The Student Room Group

Just got quoted £7000 from Adrian Flux..

Just rang them up, gave my details and they came back with a quote of £7000...

New driver, no convictions/claims, 17yo student living at home.

Volkswagen Fox 3dr 1.2, Group 1 insurance.

I live in a pretty decent area as well...pretty outrageous as I got online quotes cheaper than that.

That's ridiculous, I'm with them and mine's £2.5k (which is still a crazy amount of money..) on a 1.2 corsa.

Just keep ringing around is my only advice, I rang like 20+ insurance companies to finally get to the cheapest..

Onto Quinn...

Try Prudential
Try being all that and being epileptic as well. I'm practically uninsurable.

Ridiculous quotes like that aren't uncommon. Just do what everyone else does, tell them no and get one that will offer you a more normal price.

That's because they don't want to insure you or want your business. Flux specialise in high performance, modified cars. Not new drivers.

Look for new driver insurance on google.

It's also a good idea to do the pass plus if you an afford it, the cost/benefit definately worked for me.

Ooo nice, what engine has it got?

I just restored a Cooper S with a Stage IV 1380cc with forged internals, high lift cams, ARP bolts, the works! Got about 110ish bhp at the moment, but it is still running in.

All the insurance quote put me off getting a car

Do what I'm doing. Get your pink card. Throw in your wallet- use it as an ID and prove of address when you need to. Come 25 use it for its true purpose.

Ah ok, get some Webers and some high lift rockers (much easier to install than cams!) and get it tuned on the rolling road and you might make a little bit more peak power but should get some decent mid range punch. Should go quite nicely with the Stage 1 head.

i was thinking of that but im going to save up for a while and get a 1275 or maybe a 1380 because tuning 998's can be real expensive to only get close to a 1275 and then once i get a new engine i can plan on tuning that up. most of my moneys going towards parts to keep it running rather than make if faster :frown: if only i had unlimited money

haha, fair enough!

I think the stage IV 1380 from Minispeed was about £2.5k, but that was for a MPI engine as me and my mate stupidly bought injection rather than carb'd! Gives a proper headache come MOT time as the engine is so tuned that getting it below the emissions is a right pain in the ass!

Its not a cheap hobby! Haha!
