Can't you rent your gown?
You can rent them from the supplier, but it is not a massive amount cheaper than just buying it.

I'm finally graduating from Oxford on Saturday and I'm really looking forward to it. That said, I do think the poncy Latin ceremony is a bit much

You guys only have to pay £25?

My institution makes you rent or buy gowns from Ede and Ravenscroft :lolwut: it's a lot more than £25.

Getting inside the venue is about £30 (London Guildhall).

Buying the gown is £264.00.

I graduated last Saturday and even though it was pouring it down with rain it was still a really special day!

I agree, it's ridiculous.

I'll wind up going because I'm my parents only child, so the only chance they'll get to see a spawn of theirs' in some fancy gown, but if I had free choice I wouldn't bother.

I've enjoyed university, I just don't see prancing around on a stage in a hot gown as the best way to end it.

I never attended my own, having attended my partners it feels overstated and very sanctimonious. I just felt there are millions of people graduating every year around the world, so in a sence I'm not really achieving something special. However for people who enjoy epiletes and pagentry then it must be a wonderful experience. Horses for courses I guess. 🤔

The ceromony wasn't the best day of my life, thel day I got my graduation certificate was.

So yeah a waste of time. I get the fact that it's more about the graduates families, than it is the graduate but still a waste of time, money and energy.
