snap
it feels really itchy dammit
and my gums are chopped up
BAH

i dont think it's necessary if you have the space for them..

Not necessary at all, unless they come through at funny angles etc. Your dentist would pick that up at a normal check-up. It's not worth the hassle of a general anaesthetic op for "just in case," not to mention the cost!

Glad to hear it...I should probably have a check-up...haven't had one in over a year...maybe more.. ...
mine are coming through aswell and im really worried about the bottom ones. The top ones are basically through and fit fine but theres absolutely no room on the bottom for more teeth. they look like theyre going to grow through that gum wall at the back of your teeth. Dentist didnt really say much about them last time i saw him.
It doesn't have to be a general anaesthetic op - but it is quite a big hassle. I have partially erupted wisdom teeth and my dentist said now they do it as a last resort - from time to time they may flare up and give you bother but they often settle down after a few days, so it's only if its a really regular thing that they recommend whipping them out.
Mine have been coming through for years now, I wish they'd hurry the bugger on.
My wisdom teeth have caused me complete havoc ever since they came through but my dentist still wont take them out. they grow pointing outwards so when i shut my mouth they pinch the skin on the inside of my cheek, also they've left me with a flap of gum over the top of the bottom ones which get an infection ever other week.

He says its a major operation and still doesn't see it necessary to perform!

Christ. good luck with yours!

If they do all 4 at once, I think it pretty much has to be. I'm sure my dentist told me something about only being able to take out two at a time under local (that's why I had to have two separate appointments to have teeth removed for my braces).

They don't seem to like doing general, as the first time I asked for it and they kept saying they'd rather do local!

one of my wisdom teeth have another one growing under it. so it'll just fall out cause it can't make a root. meanwhile im in pain.......

If you're in pain, see your dentist ASAP. I had my four taken out in October - three had come through but were growing into other teeth and the other one hadn't come through the gum, but they took it out anyway. My dentist said it was best to get them all whipped out, because they'd have to go at some point, and they were so badly impacted that it wasn't worth the pain to keep them and risk infections. I was terrified for the operation (general anaesthetic) and was dreading the pain with a stitched up mouth, but there was less pain from the after effects and the healing of the stitches than I'd had when I had the teeth. People make it out to be a big operation and yes it's scary, but for me was definitely worth it.

im in pain because they're pushing through my gums!!

one of my top ones has just starting coming through. i'm worried they will mess up my teeth and undo all the hard work 2 years of braces did!

Mine have been coming through. The bottom one came up ages ago but they never cut through the gums. One of my top ones has come down and out and has been rubbing on the bottom gum. That's almost completely worn away now, only thing is, I think it's giving me bad breath. The same thing happened when the top one broke through the gum. Has anyone else had this?
How many, top, bottom or both?

They only take two at a time so you don't have to be numb on both sides of your face - but then I'd rather have two appointments with local anaesthetic than a general anaesthetic op.
Last week my right hand side flared up so I went to see my dentist and he said its probably time to take them out, after my uni exams are done. He gave me some antibiotics to settle down this infection, which they did, but he also said that when they get infected once it's likely to happen more and more often in the future and will end up being troublesome

To summarise what he said -
1. Most commonly people complain about the lower ones being inflammed, but it's actually the upper one pressing on the gum which compounds the problem, so often the best thing to do is remove the upper one first.
2. Upper wisdom teeth are really easy to remove because they only have short roots - numb you up and they're out in 20 seconds
3. Lower wisdom teeth are a bit harder to take out but in MOST cases if people are young it's not a major operation. Hospital jobs are for people whos wisdom teeth have joined into the bone, which means it's really difficult for the dentist
4. The idea that it's a really painful recovery is a bit of a myth, normally when they are taken out it's because they are likely to cause more bother when left in. You have to keep the extraction wound clean but don't be over zealous rinsing it out, because if you wash away the clot you can get something called "dry socket" which is where the bone gets exposed to the open air and will throb for a few days.
I've got one coming through at the back.. it was a bit awkward at first, not so much painful just annoying! I'm due to go to the dentist in a couple of weeks, so I'll see what they say then. I know my firend had his taken out when he went, but I'm hoping I don't have to... it doesn't feel like it's growing at an odd angle, so we'll see what they say!

Mine came through when I was like 13 IIRC, perhaps earlier.

Funny, because I'm a late developer.
I feel your pain! Mine seem to come up, really hurt for a few days, and then disappear again. I suck ice.. I dont know if thatll help!
